Guidance Services
Guidance- a more or less general term to
connote both systematic or unsystematic and
informal means toward assisting an individual.
Guidance Services- include only all systematic
and organized procedures and facilitates the
same end.
May be defined as a group of services to
individuals to assist them in securing
knowledge and skills needed in making plans
and devices, and in interpreting life.
SCOPE
Guidance services include the following:
1. Services rendered to an individual and his
needs
2. Services to staff members
3. Services pertaining to evaluation of services

Frank Parsons- Father of Vocational
Guidance Movement
HISTORY
Merril- made guidance more systematic
Adolf Meyer- focused attention on Mental
hygiene
Factors that led to the development of
Guidance Services:
1. Secondary Schools became less selective
2. Individual differences were recognized
3. Rise of Industrialism
4. Changing educational objectives
CHARACTERISTICS
1. Are identifiable aids to assist individuals,
2. Are involved in achieving goals of education,
3. Are supported by functional preparation of
teachers in guidance activities.
4. Provide for competent leadership
5. Are based on knowledge of the needs of pupils
and upon competencies of the staff members,
6. Are services made available to all,
7. Need the cooperation of parents and community.
8. Are more preventive than curative
9. Are founded on the concept of the totality of the
individual
10. Should be evaluated constantly
FORMS
There are Two Forms of Guidance
A. Group guidance
B. Individual guidance
Group Guidance
Is any group enterprise in which the
primary purpose is to assist each
individual in the group to solve his
problems and make adjustments.
Purposes of group guidance:
1. To discuss problems common to the group
and to develop awareness that problems are
also shared by others.
2. To enable each individual to understand how
others have met and solved the same problems
that confront him.
3. To broaden the horizons of pupils with
reference to occupations available to them.
Individual Guidance
Individual guidance aimed at the self-
development of the individual who
studies, plays and behaves in a group.
A better classification would be: guidance
in group situations if we mean group
guidance, and guidance in individual
situations if we mean individual guidance.

Guidance services

  • 2. Guidance Services Guidance- a more or less general term to connote both systematic or unsystematic and informal means toward assisting an individual. Guidance Services- include only all systematic and organized procedures and facilitates the same end. May be defined as a group of services to individuals to assist them in securing knowledge and skills needed in making plans and devices, and in interpreting life.
  • 3. SCOPE Guidance services include the following: 1. Services rendered to an individual and his needs 2. Services to staff members 3. Services pertaining to evaluation of services
  • 4. HISTORY Frank Parsons- Father of Vocational Guidance Movement
  • 5. HISTORY Merril- made guidance more systematic Adolf Meyer- focused attention on Mental hygiene
  • 6. Factors that led to the development of Guidance Services: 1. Secondary Schools became less selective 2. Individual differences were recognized 3. Rise of Industrialism 4. Changing educational objectives
  • 7. CHARACTERISTICS 1. Are identifiable aids to assist individuals, 2. Are involved in achieving goals of education, 3. Are supported by functional preparation of teachers in guidance activities. 4. Provide for competent leadership 5. Are based on knowledge of the needs of pupils and upon competencies of the staff members, 6. Are services made available to all, 7. Need the cooperation of parents and community. 8. Are more preventive than curative 9. Are founded on the concept of the totality of the individual 10. Should be evaluated constantly
  • 8. FORMS There are Two Forms of Guidance A. Group guidance B. Individual guidance Group Guidance Is any group enterprise in which the primary purpose is to assist each individual in the group to solve his problems and make adjustments.
  • 9. Purposes of group guidance: 1. To discuss problems common to the group and to develop awareness that problems are also shared by others. 2. To enable each individual to understand how others have met and solved the same problems that confront him. 3. To broaden the horizons of pupils with reference to occupations available to them. Individual Guidance
  • 10. Individual guidance aimed at the self- development of the individual who studies, plays and behaves in a group. A better classification would be: guidance in group situations if we mean group guidance, and guidance in individual situations if we mean individual guidance.
