- 1. INVITATION TO BID
The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) invites all publishers to bid for the
publishing of the works that won the 2013 PBBYSalanga Prize and the 2013 PBBYAlcala Prize.
The 2013 PBBYSalanga Prize went to Michael Jude Tumamac for his story, Ngumiti si Andoy.
The 2013 PBBYAlcala Prize went to Dominic Agsaway.
The winning bidder shall have the privilege of not only publishing into a book the winners’ works,
but also bear the official PBBY medal on the cover of the said publications.
The publisher of the winning works shall be decided by both the winning author and illustrator.
Below are the requirements for bidding. Attached are the bidding requirements. Deadline for
submission of bids is on April 29, 2013.
You may also wish to tap the honorable mention winners. For the 2013 PBBYSalanga Prize,
honorable mention went to Mark Anthony Angeles for his story, “Si Andoy, Batang Tondo,” and
April Jade Biglaen for her story, “Ang Supremo at ang Kuweba.” For the 2013 PBBYAlcala
Prize, honorable mention went to Francin Cruz and Sergio Bumatay III.
Below are the rules for bidding:
1. The bidding is open to all publishers who have at least been publishing children’s books
for the last three (3) years.
2. You should submit the following requirements on or before the deadline:
a. a letter stating the intention to participate in this year’s bid (indicate whether you
are bidding for the grand prize or honorable mention winner or both), addressed to
Zarah Gagatiga, Chair of the PBBY
b. a nonrefundable bidding fee of P1,000.00
c. a copy of your company’s SEC registration
d. your standard Memorandum of Agreement with book authors and illustrators
e. proof of membership in BDAP or BEAP
f. two (2) samples of children’s books your company has recently published
1. You shall submit a letter stating that you will able to launch a children’s book based on the
winning works within November 2013.
2. Late bids shall be rejected. Bids will be opened in the presence of a special committee
composed of nonpublisher PBBY members.
3. PBBY reserves the right to accept or reject any bid and to annul the bidding process and
reject all bids at any time prior to the contract award, without thereby incurring any liability
to the affected bidders.
