1. Running Head: COMBINING NURSE LEADER WITH ADVOCACY 1
Personal and Professional Accountability
I believe I have a competent skill in personal growth and development. Education
advancement has ensured that there are adequate skills necessary in handling client needs.
Without proper education, there cannot be success in the provision of services to the clients.
Education, as well as continuing education ensures that I gain more knowledge that can assist in
the stipulation of excellence medical care to patients (Harris & Roussel, 2010).
Education alone cannot be the only requirement in achieving success at the work place. I
constantly undertake annual self assessment to assess whether there is progress in my services
and abilities to provide effective service similar to other experts in the nursing field. Further, I
believe I have a competent skill in ensuring that ethical behavior and practice in the nursing field
are followed. Ethical behavior involves the use of nursing practices that cannot cause physical
and emotional harm to the clients (Harris & Roussel, 2010).
Further, I belong to the nursing professional association. This association ensures that
nurses get to use the internationally recognized practices that can bring a change in the lives of
clients. In addition, the professional association ensures that every member achieves professional
development. However, I have not been able to take an active participation in such association
but considering active participation in the future (Harris & Roussel, 2010).
Career Planning
On career planning, I can rate my strengths to be at the level of required competent
experience. Knowing the roles to be undertaken and understanding the present employment
requirements have enabled me to perform competently in the daily tasks and duties aimed at
providing quality service to the clients. Career planning also involves the understanding of how
far you want to go in the future. No person should remain stagnant in their present career.
2. Running Head: COMBINING NURSE LEADER WITH ADVOCACY 2
Individuals should draw plans on how to attain development in their careers and how they expect
to reach there. Career development increases the level of knowledge necessary in providing
effective quality service to the clients (Petersons, 2010).
Further, I have been able to come up with a career plan that provides me with direction
on what I should learn in so as to be relevant in the ever changing world in terms of skills and
technology. Future plans ensure that individuals adapt effectively in case there will be a change
in how service is to be delivered to the client (Petersons, 2010).
Personal Journey Disciplines
On personal journey disciplines, I believe I am competent to offer the best form of
leadership that can en sure that there is shared leadership among various experts in the nursing
field. Democratic principles ensure that there are no conflicts arising due to aristocracy and
bureaucratic forms of decision making. Personal journey disciplines also demands that
individuals take active involvement in action planning. This aspect of personal journey
disciplines involves the ability to engage in problem solving. Problem solving normally demand
that decisions be made concerning certain issues. I do understand that alternatives can first be
generated before decisions are made which are binding (Petersons, 2010).
Decisions made should not be fixed. There should be a change to carry out reflective
practice. This involves the assessment of the decisions that had been made to ensure that if any
problem arises in the course of their implementation, alternative practices can be drafted.
Leadership involves the ability to be able to change decisions promptly without causing serious
implications to the client and to the organization (Petersons, 2010).
Reflective Practice Reference Behaviors/Tenets
3. Running Head: COMBINING NURSE LEADER WITH ADVOCACY 3
My reflective practice reference and tenets can be rated to at competent experience and
skill. I have been able to make good use of guidelines and tenants that ensure there is faster
application of reflective practice. To achieve the dimensions of behaviors and tenant, I have been
able to hold the truth. Truth has ensured that I exercise integrity in my leadership roles. In
addition, truth ensures that there is transparency and harmony while dealing with other
individuals in an organization. Consequently, I have been able to discharge my leadership roles
without using ambiguous strategies that cannot be understood by other colleagues. Learning to
operate in confusion helps in performing tasks amidst several challenges. This is necessary
because the work environment can never be without challenges (Harris & Roussel, 2010).
Further, I do understand that discrimination against race, gender, religion, and sexual
orientation is harmful at the work environment as well as outside the work environment. I treat
all people equally with disregard for their social and economic background. This ensures that
there is unity while trying to achieve common objectives of the organization (Harris & Roussel,
2010).
One personal goal on my current leadership skill is to ensure that democratic principles are
applied in the process of leading. Democracy can only be achieved through the encouragement
of active participation in decision making. Every individual should be involved in the decision
making process as well as coming up with alternatives to the decision found to be ineffective to
implement (Harris & Roussel, 2010).
