“Cinema deals with feelings, sensations, intuitions
and movement, things that communicate to
audiences at a level
not necessarily subject to conscious,
rational and critical comprehension”
31. Errol Morris
“If you want to trick someone
with a photograph, there are lots of
easy ways to do it. You don’t need Photoshop.
You don’t need sophisticated digital
photo-manipulation. You don’t need
a computer. All you need to do
is change the caption”
Thanks to the Organisation for inviting me. Thanks to Leandro, Yanina, Max for your trust. Thanks to Montecarlo and Javier for joining.
My name is Eva Snijders: (I’m definitely not a “visual Storyteller”, Jesús could testify for that ;-) Storyteller, Story Practitioner, Story Listener, Questioner, Challenger. I’m more like a midwife to other people’s stories.
Montecarlo: Storyteller, Filmmaker, Transmedia Architect
Javier Jaén: Graphic Designer, Illustrator
15’ each, then 15’ of debate to which you are all invited.
Yanina called me on behalf of our common friend Leandro. She asked me to talk about Visual Storytelling. I told her that was not really my speciality, but I could do so, since I had studied Design. Then I decided it would be a good idea to invite Montecarlo and Javier to join me, since they are two true visual artists. My background includes work as a (Photo) Editor.
15 years ago, I would receive boxes like this one every day.
They would contain original photographs (Mind you, this is before we all went digital!). I would feel honoured and slightly impressed. And there was always a feeling of excitement when opening them. They looked like treasure boxes to me. I also felt privileged and sometimes, slightly overwhelmed, to receive someone’s original work for me to judge whether it was suitable for one of our books.
10/04/2014 Six weeks ago yesterday. Graphic reporter for AFP. The reporter’s eye.
And it does so individually.
Which story is important?
It is not about the story I tell
It is about the story you tell yourself
While I tell the story I tell
Paul A. Costello
This is the only part left of my original presentation. I wanted to tell you about visual metaphors and parables. Until last Sunday, my thread was about “visuals as doors to perception, as entrance ways to the sub conscience”. Then I had a long chat with a dear colleague and decided to be brave and stand tall. Today I am going to give you a little gift, a world premiere, if you wish, and tell you…
