The Gospel of Matthew shows that Jesus is the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament scriptures who fulfilled the law and prophecies. It provides examples of Jesus fulfilling prophecies about being called Immanuel, called out of Egypt, descended from David and called a Nazarene. Jesus fulfilled the law perfectly and expanded its meaning. He was the suffering servant, son of God and man, and overcame temptations that Israel failed to resist. The theme is that through Jesus' life and death, salvation has come to all people as he is the fulfillment of God's covenants and the Jewish messianic expectations.
