We live immersed in a Digital Culture which is an emerging set of values, practices, and expectations reflected in the way people act and interact within modern society. Its principal components are participation (collaboration, we are not only citizens but netizens); remediation (legitimacy and credibility); and bricolage (reuse of sources, redistribute information). Therefore, by examining these three aspects of a Digital Culture, the author comes to two conclusions. First, cultures exist side by side, partly overlap, and certain values mean different things within different media cultures, as for example bricolage in electronic media can mean zapping (TV) and scanning (radio), whereas on the Internet it can refer to aggregating secondhand truths through deep linking. Second, the moment one names and defines a culture, it has already become something else. There is no such thing as “the” digital culture.

The research process: theoretical framework and hypothesis development the social network The growing use of social network sites (such as Facebook) and online communities (such as for instance the apple computer community, the community of Harley-Davidson riders, and the community of Starbucks customers) provides exciting opportunities for organizations. Online brand communities allow organizations to engage and interact with customers, obtain market information, sell and advertise products, rapidly disseminate information, develop long-term relationships with the community, and eventually to influence consumers’ preferences and behavior (Dholakia and Bagozzi, 2001, Dholakia, Bagozzi, and Pearo, 2004, Franke and shah, 2003, Muniz and Schau, 2005, Tedjamulia, Olsen, dean, and Albrecht, 2005). “brand community” is a term that is used to describe like-minded consumers who identify with a particular brand and share significant traits, such as for instance “a shared consciousness, rituals, traditions, and a sense of moral responsibility” (Muniz and O’Guinn, 2001, p. 412). Online brand communities are based on their core value - the brand - and grow by building relationships with and among members interested in the brand (Jang et al. 2008). There are several possible categorizations of online brand communities, but they are generally grouped into two categories based on who initiates and manages the community; (1) company initiated communities, built by the company that owns the brand and (2) user-initiated communities, voluntarily built by their members (that is, the consumer) (e.g., Armstrong and Hhagel 1996; kozinets1999). These two types of brand communities provide different opportunities for marketers. For instance, a brand community on a company website is one of the key determinants of attracting consumers to and retaining customers on the website (Nysveen and Pedersen, 2004). Consumer initiated online brand communities may provide consumers with useful information about other Consumers’ experiences with the product or service and the strengths and weaknesses of products or services (Jang et al. 2008). The success of online brand communities is heavily dependent on consumer participation in the online brand community. To determine why consumers, participate in online brand community’s business student Jesse Eisenberg has developed a model based on extant service marketing literature. The main idea in this literature is that perceived value and satisfaction are antecedents of the intention to use a product or service (Anderson, Fornell, and Lehmann 1994; Bolton and drew1991; Grönroos 1990; Hocutt 1998; Kang, lee, and Choi 2007; Ravald and Grönroos 1996). Jesse wants to apply this idea to consumer participation in online brand communities. This study investigates the social influence effects of social capital within virtual consumer communities on members’ attitudes towards the products that are being discussed within these communities. Since previous offline and online marketing studies primarily focused on consumer attitude changes from an individual perspective, instead of integrating a view related to the social context, it examines the social influence processes of compliance, identification and internalization, and investigates how these influences emerge from the communities’ social system. Data of 622 respondents gathered from five communities indicate that the communities’ social context can explain the development of these three social influences, and these interpersonal persuasion processes affect members’ product attitudes directly or indirectly in their turn. Internalization had the strongest effect on members’ product attitude changes, followed by compliance processes. Identification did not have a direct effect, but showed to have an indirect effect via compliance and internalization. Social capital proved to be a significant antecedent of all three influences. The community’s structural character only influenced identification processes. The relations between the community members partly determined the emergence of identification and internalization processes, while a trusting relational setting negatively affected compliance processes. Cognitive social capital was an important antecedent for all three influence processes.

Yet these online social networking communities must balance the trade-off between advertising revenue and user experience. Drawing on the sociology and advertising literature, this study investigates the impacts of social identity and group norms on community users' group intentions to accept advertising in online social networking communities. By outlining how this type of group intention could influence community members' perceptions and value judgments of such advertising, this study delineates possible mechanisms by which community members may respond positively to community advertising. The authors test the proposed theoretical framework on a sample of 327 popular online community users in China and obtain general support. Implications for the prospect of advertising in online social networking communities are discussed.

This paper presents an state-of-the-art analysis of collaborative methodologies necessary for the shared creation of collaborative books, with a more specific attention given to open academic textbooks. This paper explore the academic literature of general concept of collaboration to more specific task of collaborative writing and example of successful initiatives of open textbooks around the world. Delivering value through data - final report. Throughout 2018, Future Agenda canvassed the views of a wide range of 900 experts with different backgrounds and perspectives from around the world, to provide their insights on the future value of data. Supported by Facebook and many other organisations, we held 30 workshops across 24 countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. In them, we reviewed the data landscape across the globe, as it is now, and how experts think it will evolve over the next five to ten years. The aim? To gain a better understanding of how perspectives and priorities differ across the world, and to use the diverse voices and viewpoints to help governments, organisations, and individuals to better understand what they need to do to realise data’s full potential. We are not aware of any other exercise of this scale or scope. No other project we know of has carefully and methodically canvassed the views of such a wide range of experts from such a diverse range of backgrounds and geographical locations. The result, we hope, delivers a more comprehensive picture of the sheer variety of issues and views thrown up by a fast-evolving ‘data economy’ than can be found elsewhere. And, by providing this rich set of perspectives, we aim to help businesses and governments - to develop the policies, strategies, and innovations that realise the full potential of data (personal, social, economic, commercial), while addressing potential harms, both locally and globally. EDWARDS and RICHARD HOEFER University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas PAGE 220 This article describes social work advocacy efforts, states what Web 2.0 technology has to offer social work advocacy, and presents original research on the current levels of Web 2.0 use on social work advocacy organization Web sites. This study employed a content analysis of a purposive sample of social work advocacy organization Web sites (N = 63). The researchers created a data collection instrument containing items related to communicating with policy makers, resource gathering, information, and use of specific Web 2.0 technologies. Findings reveal that social work organizations make good use of their Web sites for some advocacy activities, and grossly underutilize the Web forum for others. Furthermore, social work organizations do not use Web 2.0 often for advocacy. Barriers impeding Web 2.0 use and methods to overcome such barriers are also discussed. Implications for future social work education, practice, and research follow. Advocacy aimed at informing the policy process serves as a key method that social workers use to fulfill this mission (Hoefer, 2006; Jackson-Elmoore, 2005). Social work advocates must take advantage of every advocacy tactic available to the greatest extent possible to ensure timely policy change for vulnerable populations. PAGE 221 Advocacy tactics have been divided into “inside” and “outside” (Hoefer, 2001, 2005; Walker, 1993). Inside tactics are those that groups use to work directly with decision makers, such as lobbying. Outside tactics are employed by interest group members or the public to put pressure on decision makers. The Internet, as originally designed (Web 1.0), has been effectively used as an outside tactic to disseminate information from interest group leaders to decision makers and members of the public. Thus, the Web is a tool advocates can use to keep their message available at all times. In recent years, the Internet has moved from being a one-way highway to a more interactive entity, called Web 2.0. This second generation of Web site tools expands human services organizations’ advocacy efforts well beyond information dissemination. Through social media applications such as blogs, wikis, podcasts, videocasts, social networking, etc., human service organizations can promote information sharing, participatory knowledge generation, and collaboration building (Fine, 2007; McNutt, 2008; McNutt & Menon, 2008; Sche.

Peer-reviewed journals remain important vehicles for knowledge transfer and dissemination in health informatics, yet, their format, processes and business models are changing only slowly. Up to the end of last century, it was common for individual researchers and scientific organizations to leave the business of knowledge transfer to professional publishers, signing away their rights to the works in the process, which in turn impeded wider dissemination. Traditional medical informatics journals are poorly cited and the visibility and uptake of articles beyond the medical informatics community remain limited. In 1999, the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR; http://www.jmir.org) was launched, featuring several innovations including 1) ownership and copyright retained by the authors, 2) electronic-only, "lean" non-for-profit publishing, 3) openly accessible articles with a reversed business model (author pays instead of reader pays), 4) technological innovations such as automatic XML tagging and reference checking, on-the-fly PDF generation from XML, etc., enabling wide distribution in various bibliographic and full-text databases. In the past 10 years, despite limited resources, the journal has emerged as a leading journal in health informatics, and is presently ranked the top journal in the medical informatics and health services research categories by impact factor. The paper summarizes some of the features of the Journal, and uses bibliometric and access data to compare the influence of the Journal on the discipline of medical informatics and other disciplines. While traditional medical informatics journals are primarily cited by other Medical Informatics journals (33%-46% of citations), JMIR papers are to a more often cited by "end-users" (policy, public health, clinical journals), which may be partly attributable to the "open access advantage".
