3. Planning your family design.
Before you use the different pages that are included in your time capsule, you need to design an
overall plan or “storyboard” of how you want your book to look. Since every book has a theme,
perhaps that can be your first discussion at the Family Love Forum. All premium members have
access to the forum, and this is where you can plan your family’s storyboard and theme. Watch
this tutorial on how to access the forum. Here are some thematic ideas that can easily be
organized into a storyboard or sequence of content pages:
1. Choose a single person who can most represent the family and what it represents.
2. Find the family crest or some other emblem and discuss its meaning with members.
3. Choose a single event in the family’s history that can serve as the thematic focus.
4. Select the five best traits that the family has and then organize based on them.
5. Choose a family theme song, book or movie and organize based on its theme.

4. Storyboard it and present it to the family.
The “artist” in the family should take the ideas formulated as to theme and organize the pages in your
time capsule. This can be done using a PowerPoint program or any other type of visual brainstorming
software. For example, perhaps the person you choose is the “grand dame” of the family, a
grandmother. She has all the traits you want to organize your capsule around, and you plot the
capsule based on family photo albums and family home movies. Here are her traits:
1. She is a wonderful cook (so, your photos must have in the photos or relate in movies to food of
some kind).
2. She loves playing with the grandkids (or any kids who happen to be in the vicinity). Therefore, the
photos are collected based on the theme of adults enjoying children’s companionship.
3. She used to be a terrific athlete. You get the idea? Assemble the albums around different sports
and the home movies that relate to your family’s athleticism (or even lack thereof).
4. She was a writer of poetry. So, you assemble the writing of the family and attach photos or
movies to the different writings.
5. She overcame a physical or emotional hardship. Show photo albums or videos of how family
groups did the same.

to tell your family’s story. You must remember to use each one according to your overall
theme or storyboard. The entire family must be in agreement as to what’s going into your
