Hello, I’m Paul. I’m living in France. I am a student of Bachelors Part – 2 and a book wormer. I love science and I prefer to search for information about science. I want to have some necessary knowledge about science. I especially draw my attention in science-astronomy. I introduce my website, which contain the useful information about Neptune planet and some Facts about planet Neptune. There are also some pictures of Neptune. I hope that, they will provide to you useful knowledge about astronomy in general and Neptune in particular.
1. Neptune – The Other Blue Planet
The planet Neptune is the eighth planet in our solar system, and is now
considered to be the farthest one from the sun (as Pluto is now no longer
considered to be a planet). Named after the Roman god of the sea, Neptune (the
Roman equivalent to the Greek god Neptune), because of its distinct blue color.
The planet Neptune was first observed by the great ancient astronomer Galileo but
misrepresented it as a star in his drawings, mostly in part because his telescope
isn’t powerful enough to discern the planet’s disc shape.
The bright blue color of
the planet Neptune is brought
about by the absorption of all
the red light rays by the huge
amount of methane gas that is
in the planet’s atmosphere, but
the reason behind what gives
the clouds in Neptune that
bluish hue is still unconfirmed
as of yet.
Neptune’s discovery was
actually predicted by
mathematicians Le Verrier and Adams, who independently made calculations on
which area in space they think Neptune was going to be; but it was Le Verrier,
with the help of the astronomer Johann Galle, who first discovered the existence of
planet Neptune.
You can actually see the planet Neptune using binoculars and if you know
where to look, but if you want to see something more than just a speck in the
middle of space you would need a pretty powerful telescope. Just like the other
gas giant Saturn, Neptune also has rings that orbit the planet, 6 of them in fact; it’s
2. just that these rings aren’t very visible because they are made up of dark colored
matter. The existence of the rings were just confirmed rather recently thanks to the
pictures sent by the satellite Voyager II whose last stop in its tour of the solar
system was Neptune.
The planet Neptune also has multiple moons, 13 of them in fact, and two of
these moons are actually inside one of the broader rings that surround the planet.
As of now, 13 moons are found to be orbiting the planet, but it is theorized that
there might be several more moons
that are just waiting to be
discovered.
The largest of Neptune’s 13
moons, Triton, has an orbit that is
the same as the planet’s rotation,
bringing forth a theory that it was
not originally a moon of Neptune. It
is conjectured that Triton might
have been a planetoid that was just
caught up in the planet’s gravitational pull eons ago.
Being the farthest planet from the sun, Neptune has the largest orbit of the
eight planets. Its orbit is so large that ever since it was first discovered in 1846, the
planet Neptune has yet to complete one complete orbit around the sun. It is
estimated that one year (meaning one complete orbit around the sun) in Neptune,
is equivalent to 146 years here on earth.
And because it is so far from the sun, Neptune also has the coldest climate
out of all the planets. Found out to be more than -200 degrees Celsius in some
areas, it makes the South Pole look like a tropical paradise in comparison.
These are just some of the interesting facts about the other blue planet in our
solar system. You can dig up some more facts about Neptune in your local library
or in the internet.
3. Want to Gather More Information About
Neptune? Here's How To
Even if you are not an astronaut or a professional astronomer, if you are
interested about the other blue planet in our solar system, Neptune, there are a lot
of sources where you can get information about it. There might be a number of
reasons why you would want
information on the planet Neptune,
like you would need it because
you’re making an amateur science
fiction movie and you want to get
the details right, or you just want to
know just so you can satisfy your
own curiosity. Good news! There
are a lot of sources of information
that you can consult with.
Maybe you’re wondering why
the planet Neptune is also blue like the Earth, maybe you’re thinking that Neptune
is covered entirely by water; Hence the name Neptune, but the reason why it’s this
color is because of the planet’s atmosphere. Neptune’s atmosphere is composed
mostly of methane, and because methane absorbs most of the red rays of light it
reflects only the blue part of the light, making the planet take a bright blue color.
If you want to find out just how Neptune really looks like, as well as the
other planets, you can use the usual sources of astronomy information. Go and
check out the books in your local library for volumes that tackle about this
interesting blue planet. Aside from books you can also get great information tidbits
over the internet, just type in your query about Neptune in any search engine and
4. you will be given a long list of websites that can provide you with the information
that you want. If these information sources aren’t enough for you then there are
more ways you can add more information about the planet Neptune and about the
other things in the galaxy.
If you don’t have access to a spaceship that has the ability for travelling in
outer space so you can get to Neptune, you can at least get the next best thing. By
using space exploration software you will get a virtual tour of the entire galaxy, all
in 3d. These programs will allow you to dive into a completely 3 dimensional view
of the entire galaxy, making it seem that you are actually flying through space
travelling to the different planets.
These programs will not only enable you to get the feeling of travelling to
Neptune at the speed of light, it will also provide you with extensive information
about the planet as well. You’ll also get information regarding the other planets
and other heavenly objects.
Programs like this is certainly a great tool for people who are astronomy
buffs, you will also find these programs a good teaching tool for your children as
well. Kids will be entertained and learn some new things at the same time. If
you’re a person who is not that technically inclined when it comes to computers,
there are also some simplified versions of these software that acts more like a
game so that it is easy to use even a child can use them.
So whether you are a serious astronomer or just someone who’s curious to
learn about the planet Neptune or in the other planets as well, these 3d astronomy
programs are a great source of knowledge that you can enjoy immensely.
