Evaluation of my media product  Ahmad Safari
In this power point I am going to give my own evaluation of media texts produced by myself and my group, which include a music video, CD cover and advert.   I am going to explain the reason for certain aspects and why i have chosen particular designs in my products.
In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?  There are many ways in which the product myself and my group created challenges and develops codes and conventions of real media products in our chosen genre.
Before we started on our own product we had to research about our chosen genre, Rap/Grime and see which codes and conventions they with held.  We found out that most rap/grime music video are made up of montage shots of suburban environments, such as the pictures below.
The codes and conventions which we developed on would be the montage shots in particular. As we found out this type of shot was most popular amounts our genre’s music video, we developed this technique by merging montage shots with live performance scenes to make it appeal for our chosen target audience.  We also became certain that all of the same genre music videos had semi-nude female models to attract the mainly male audience’s attention.
In our video we also challenged normal codes and conventions of music videos in the rap/grime genre.  During our research we discovered most rap and grime music videos contains quite a lot of violence so we decided to challenge this convention; therefore there are no violence scenes which might influence younger audience in a negative way.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?  The combing of our main product with other forms of texts is very effect in the sense that it will be spread to a wider audience range.   We combining we used most of the same images we captured during the filming process.  This way the audience can create a connection between the artist and the artist’s image, with in the video as well as cd cover and adverts.
As well as using various types of shoots to capture our video , here we have used changed of focus.  This is a still image from during our shooting. Girl behind artist to attract the  attention of audience  Artist looking down to show he is in his zone as he sings the lyrics.  Camera focused on the girl behind the artist to highlight the fact that she is there.  Closed framing is also used to portray the image of the artiest and the girl’s close connection Girl showing underwear to grab predominantly male audience attention.
Target audience  Our target audience was mainly students and people in their early twenties. The reason for this was biased on our research as we discovered students were the main consumers of our chosen rap/grime genre.  Once we had finalized our music video we got together a pilot group who would be the first people to see it. We asked them to fill in a questionnaire about the video once they had seen it a few times.
What have you learnt from audience feedback?  After the pilot group had seen our video we asked them for the opinion about our video and what improvements or alterations we could make.  From the feedback we got we were able to create graphs and charts to draw conclusions about how successful our video is.  We did this by giving a questionnaire to complete designed by myself and my group.
Types of questions asked ..  Would you refer our video to a friend ?  Do you think the video is good enough to go on national TV ?  What rating would you give our music video on a scale of 1-10, Ten being highest rank? Describe the video in 3 words ?  After seeing the video and hearing the song, will you now purchase the artist’s album?  Are you interested in hearing another song by this artist? What do you think we could improve upon in our video?
Results of audience feedback As we can see from the two of the many pie charts I have created that our video was a success.  Would you refer our video to a friend?  This meant that if our video was to shown to a wider audience there would be a great amount of positive feedback compared to negative.
How did you use new media technologies in construction and research, planning & evaluation?   There are two types of technologies we used, one hardware and the other software.  As a whole we have used a great number of modern and new technologies as well as some of the old school methods to create our music video and additional products.  Hardware Software

Improvements  In conclusion I am very proud of our video and think it deserved credit.  How ever there are improvements I would construct if I was given the chance to remake the video.  Over all I have really enjoyed every stage of producing our video and have developed many skill as well as learnt loads of new ones.  I would probably add extra dance and stage performance scenes to liven up the atmosphere in the video.

  • 9. Target audience Our target audience was mainly students and people in their early twenties. The reason for this was biased on our research as we discovered students were the main consumers of our chosen rap/grime genre. Once we had finalized our music video we got together a pilot group who would be the first people to see it. We asked them to fill in a questionnaire about the video once they had seen it a few times.
  • 10. What have you learnt from audience feedback? After the pilot group had seen our video we asked them for the opinion about our video and what improvements or alterations we could make. From the feedback we got we were able to create graphs and charts to draw conclusions about how successful our video is. We did this by giving a questionnaire to complete designed by myself and my group.
  • 11. Types of questions asked .. Would you refer our video to a friend ? Do you think the video is good enough to go on national TV ? What rating would you give our music video on a scale of 1-10, Ten being highest rank? Describe the video in 3 words ? After seeing the video and hearing the song, will you now purchase the artist’s album? Are you interested in hearing another song by this artist? What do you think we could improve upon in our video?
  • 12. Results of audience feedback As we can see from the two of the many pie charts I have created that our video was a success. Would you refer our video to a friend? This meant that if our video was to shown to a wider audience there would be a great amount of positive feedback compared to negative.
  • 13. How did you use new media technologies in construction and research, planning & evaluation? There are two types of technologies we used, one hardware and the other software. As a whole we have used a great number of modern and new technologies as well as some of the old school methods to create our music video and additional products. Hardware Software

  • 16. Improvements In conclusion I am very proud of our video and think it deserved credit. How ever there are improvements I would construct if I was given the chance to remake the video. Over all I have really enjoyed every stage of producing our video and have developed many skill as well as learnt loads of new ones. I would probably add extra dance and stage performance scenes to liven up the atmosphere in the video.
