OAKTON SWIM & RACQUET WATER QUALITY RETROFIT Capital Facilities/Utilities Design and Construction Division/Transportation & Stormwater Construction Branch
Project Details Oakton Swim & Racquet Water Quality Retrofit Project Capital Facilities/Utilities Design and Construction Division/Transportation & Stormwater Construction Branch Description: The Oakton Swim & Racquet Water Quality Retrofit Project was substantially completed on April 20, 2015. The project consisted of retrofitting three stormwater inlet areas to improve water quality through the use of vegetated biorention facilities, also known as rain gardens. Project Overview: • Retrofit three existing stormwater inlet areas to provide storage capacity • Improve the quality of water exiting the existing yard inlets • Installation of rain gardens to remove sediment and pollutants as stormwater enters the facility • Installation of vegetation in the bottom of the rain gardens where plants will further remove sediment and take up nutrients • Reduction of 24 lbs. of total nitrogen per year, 4 lbs. of total phosphorus per year, and 684 lbs. of sediment per year Project Team: • Stormwater Planning Division – Jasdeep Saini • Urban Forest Management Division - Hugh Whitehead • Utilities Design and Construction Division- Dave Becker, Kenny Giles

Project Details Oakton Swim & Racquet Water Quality Retrofit Project Capital Facilities/Utilities Design and Construction Division/Transportation & Stormwater Construction Branch Description: The Oakton Swim & Racquet Water Quality Retrofit Project was substantially completed on April 20, 2015. The project consisted of retrofitting three stormwater inlet areas to improve water quality through the use of vegetated biorention facilities, also known as rain gardens. Project Overview: • Retrofit three existing stormwater inlet areas to provide storage capacity • Improve the quality of water exiting the existing yard inlets • Installation of rain gardens to remove sediment and pollutants as stormwater enters the facility • Installation of vegetation in the bottom of the rain gardens where plants will further remove sediment and take up nutrients • Reduction of 24 lbs. of total nitrogen per year, 4 lbs. of total phosphorus per year, and 684 lbs. of sediment per year Project Team: • Stormwater Planning Division – Jasdeep Saini • Urban Forest Management Division - Hugh Whitehead • Utilities Design and Construction Division- Dave Becker, Kenny Giles
