Description:
The Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division, working closely with the Fire and Rescue Division,
installed stormwater enhancements to allow ponding water to drain away from the burn buildings at the Fire
Training Academy. Two swales were constructed, on both the western and southern sides of the burn building, to
direct water away from the building during training exercises. A concrete apron with a debris grate was also
installed to trap sediment and debris coming off of the building during training exercises and to allow sediment and
debris to settle out of the water before leaving the site.
Project Overview:
Installed a 144’ grass swale on the south side of the burn building to facilitate positive drainage from the
existing concrete into an existing storm drain.
Installed 100’ of curb and gutter along the western edge of pavement. A concrete apron with a debris grate
was installed within the curb and gutter to facilitate the maintenance and removal of accumulated debris.
Installed an 80’ grass channel to facilitate positive drainage from the debris grate and existing concrete into
existing storm drain.
