1. How did you use new media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop was used to produce both the poster and the magazine cover. I
was familiar with the software before producing my A2 portfolio as I had used
it for my AS and GCSE media studies therefore I was well experienced with
using Photoshop. I also watched a few tutorials on YouTube to develop my
knowledge further.
3. SONY VEGAS
We used Sony Vegas to make the whole our trailer which included editing and sound. I
had never used the software before but group member Jack Cranston was familiar
with it therefore after him teaching me how to use it and watching tutorials it become
much simpler.
We used different transitions such as fade so that the trailer flowed better from shot
to shot. We were also able to edit the colour and make it low key as this was a
common convention of our genre.
4. WORDLE
I presented the conventions of our chosen genre ‘Thriller’ on Wordle as I
felt it was a more interesting and creative way to present my work. I also
found it useful to view all the conventions as a list because it allowed me
to identify it more easily.
5. SLIDE SHARE
This is the third time I have used Slide Share in my A2 portfolio as I
feel it is an effective way to present work. I produced both;
‘Audience Theories’ and ‘Conventions of magazine covers’ slide
share show. Slide Share allowed me to upload my power points in
an effective and profession manor.
6. EXCEL
I found that Excel was the best tool to create bar charts, pie charts and
tables to present the questionnaire results. I found it useful because
you can clearly compare and spot trends with it visually presented in
this way.
7. YOUTUBE
I set up a YouTube account for my media studies as I was then able to
upload our trailer and the commentary I did on the existing trailer ‘Panic
Room’ to then post on my blog.
8. FACEBOOK
We used Facebook to get feedback from our trailer as well as
arranging focus groups so that we had more reliable answers.
9. NIKON D7000 CAMERA
We used a Nikon D7000 camera to film the footage for our trailer, film our
audience feedback and take pictures for our ancillary products. Group
member Jack Cranston owns this piece of equipment and does
Photography therefore he was able to teach me and Lucy Benet how to
use it in an effective way.
10. ZOOM H4
A zoom H4 recorder was used when I did a voiceover for my analysis of the
trailer ‘Panic Room’. I had never used it before but felt it was a more
creative way to analyse an existing product.
