2. INTRODUCTION
The first SIM card was producedin 1991 by Giesecke &
Devrientin Munich.
The name SIM comes from the integrated circuits
of the cards, which are called subscriberidentity
modules. SIM cards are an entirely integral part of
cell phones, computers and networking in modern
society. SIM cards store information required for
authentication and allow a user’s phone to connect
to the network. SIM cards have serial numbers and
contain network information, which allows users to
remove the card from one phone and install it in a
new one without having to re-register the device.
3. HISTORY OF SIM CARD
1991: The world’s first call was placed, which was the start
of what is now billions of daily phone calls - Giesecke &
Devrient.
1993: The first person-to-person SMS text message was
sent, launching thumb Olympics amongst teenagers
worldwide.
1996: The world’s first fixed-mobile service bundle was
launched.
1998: The world’s first ringtone was sold. In our current
world of in-app purchases, Netflix and Kindles, it’s strange
to think that the industry of digital downloadable content
didn’t exist until this first ringtone sale 17 years ago.

signal of the device is
multiplexed, and the same
physical channel is used to
send the signal.
Every cell has a corresponding

the mobile phones in that
cellular area.

5. They come in multiple size and shapes, but SIM, Mini-SIM and Nano
SIM are really the same chip and connectors embedded in a plastic
frame of varying size.
MiniSIM: This SIM card has been around for many years now and can be
found on older smartphones or certain feature phones even today. The
size of the SIM card is pretty big and if phones like the iPhone 3GS and
Nexus 4 are some examples of the phones that relied on the mini SIM
card.
MicroSIM: The micro SIM is pretty much the standard these days for the
majority of smartphones. Pretty much all Android smartphones at the
moment accept the micro SIM as the SIM card of choice. It is noticeably
smaller than the mini SIM and has helped to contribute to the creation of
thinner smartphones. Phones such as the iphone 4, iphone 4s, nexus 5,
and samsung galaxy s5 are examples of phones that use the micro SIM.
NanoSIM: The nano SIM is currently the smallest SIM card available at the
moment. At one point in time, there was a bit of contention between
Apple and Nokia regarding the nano SIM in which Apple was looking to
make the nano SIM the new standard in SIM cards.

21. CONCLUSION
SIM card is extremely secure as a mode and is ideal for Banking Applications to be
ported on.
I feel that it's possible to make call without a SIM card because we are able to make
emergency calls without having a SIM card. When making emergency calls, it will
send a special (Authorised) IMSI to the public network and then you are able to make
calls even without SIM card or unauthorised devices
