Effective Teens

2. The 7 Habits:
Habit #1: Be Proactive
Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind
Habit #3: Prioritize
Habit #4: Think win-win
Habit #5:
Seek first to understand and then be understood
Habit #6: Synergize
Habit #7: Sharpen the saw
3. Habit #1: Be Proactive
Take Responsibility of your life:
Reactive people make choices based on whims and
impulse.
(Ex.: like a can of soda, if life shakes them up a
bit, pressure builds until the suddenly explode)
Versus…
Proactive people, who make choices based on values.
They think before they act. They recognize that they
cant control everything that happens to them.
(Ex: like a bottle of water, you can shake them up all
you want, but nothing happens. They are calm cool and
in control)
4. Habit #2: Begin with the End in
Mind
Define your goals and missions in life.
Meaning: thinking beyond today and deciding what you
want to do with your life
Zack Welch, “Control your destiny or someone else will,”
Habit #1 says you are the driver of your life, Habit #2
says, since you’re the driver, decide where you want to
go and draw a map it
5. Habit #3: Put first things First
PRIORITIZE!!
Plan ahead
Never let fear make your decisions
Winning; means rising each time you fall
prioritizing and managing your time so that the most
important things come before the less important things.
Having will-power means to strength to say yes to your
most important things
Won't power means the strength to say no to the less
important things and to peer pressure as well.
6. Habit #4: Think win-win
It’s only natural that one would want to win
But one can never be successful in the long run if you
don’t provide value to the people you are in contact with
Being selfish doesn’t get one anyone anywhere but in a
lose-lose position.
It is important make sure everyone wins or in the end
you will be the one to lose
7. Habit #5:
Seek first to understand and then be
understood
Some things to avoid while being a good listener :
1. Spacing out: is when you look like your listening but
your thinking of other things
2. Pretending to Listen: (Is the most common of the 5) Not
really listening, just saying insightful comments. The
speaker would usually get the point and feel as if they are
not important enough to be heard out.
3.Selective Listening: Paying attention only to the part that
interests you.
8. Habit #5:
Seek first to understand and then be
understood
4.Word Listening: is when you pay attention to the words
but not the true meaning behind tem or the reason that
they are being asked. Different tones ways of saying things
effect communication a lot .For example:
I didn’t say you had an attitude problem
I didn’t say you had an attitude problem
I didn’t say you had an attitude problem
5.Self-Centered Listening: Happens when we see
everything rom our own point of view instead of theirs.
When listening from our point of view we tend to
judge, advise, and probe.
“Before you walk in another’s shoes you must first remove
your own”
9. Habit #6: Synergize
"Synergy is achieved when two or more people world
together to create a better solution than neither could
alone.”
Scientists have made discoveries that while flying in a
"V" shape the geese can travel 71% farther then they
would if they were to fly alone!
when a goose flaps its wings, it creates an updraft for
the goose that follow.
So basically each goose is helping the other geese
out, and while doing so accomplishing more!
10. Habit #6: Synergize
The steps you would need to take in order to get to
Synergy are:
Define the Problem or Opportunity,
Their Way (Seek first to understand the ideas of
others.),
My Way (Seek to be understood by sharing your ideas.)
Brainstorm (Create new options and ideas.)
High Way (Find the best solution.).
11. Habit #7: Sharpen the saw
Renew yourself regularly
This habit is all about renewing yourself to make sure
your able to deal with all the struggles in life.
The four key things you need to renew are:
1.Body-The Physical Dimension
2.Brain-The Mental Dimension
3.Heart-The Emotional Dimension
4. Soul-The Spiritual Dimension.
