This message was given on July 13, 2014 at New City Church of Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info: www.newcitychurch.ca
5. After this the Lord appointed seventy-
Luke 10:1-3
two others and sent them on ahead
of him, two by two, into every town
and place where he himself was
about to go. And he said to them,
6. “The harvest is plentiful, but the
Luke 10:1-3
laborers are few. Therefore pray
earnestly to the Lord of the harvest
to send laborers into his harvest.
Go your way; behold, I am sending
you out as lambs in the midst of
wolves….”
7. “Carry no moneybag, no knapsack,
Luke 10:4-6
no sandals, and greet no one on the
road. Whatever house you enter say,
‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a
son of peace is there, your peace
will rest on him. But if not, it will
return to you….
8. “I know men; and I tell you
that Jesus Christ is no mere
man. Between Him and
every other person in the
world there is no possible
term of comparison....
Jesus Christ founded His
empire upon love; and at
this hour millions of men
would die for Him.”
~ Napoleon Bonaparte
1769-1821
10. “And remain in the same house, eat-
Luke 10:4-7
ing and drinking what they provide,
for the laborer deserves his wages.
Do not go from house to house.
Whenever you enter a town and they
receive you, eat what is set before
11. “…you. Heal the sick in it and say to
Luke 10:8
them, ‘The kingdom of God has
come near to you.’”
12. “But whenever you enter a town and
Luke 10:10-11
they do not receive you, go into its
streets and say, ‘Even the dust of
your town that clings to our feet we
wipe off against you. Nevertheless
know this, that the kingdom of God
13. “…has come near.’ I tell you, it
Luke 10:11-13
will be more bearable on that day
for Sodom than for that town. “Woe
to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Beth-
saida! For if the mighty works done
in you had been done in Tyre and
14. “…Sidon, they would have repented
Luke 10:13-15
long ago, sitting in sackcloth and
ashes. But it will be more bearable
in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon
than for you. And you, Capernaum,
will you be exalted to heaven? You
shall be brought down to Hades.”
15. “…it is appointed for
man to die once, and
after that comes
judgment.”
~ Hebrews 9:27
16. “Hell is simply one’s
freely chosen identity
apart from God
on a trajectory
into infinity.”
~ Tim Keller, Pastor & Author
of The Reason for God
17. “There are only two
kinds of people—
those who say
‘Thy will be done’
to God, or those
to whom God in
the end says,
‘Thy will be done.’”~ CS Lewis, Professor
Oxford University
18. “The one who hears you hears me,
Luke 10:16
and the one who rejects you rejects
me, and the one who rejects me
rejects him who sent me.”
23. I once was lost in darkest night
Yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life
Had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will
And if You had not loved me first
I would refuse You still
24. But as I ran my hell-bound race
Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed
You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me
Now all I know is grace
26. “But how are they to call
on him in whom they have
not believed? And how are
they to believe in him of
whom they have never
heard? And how are they
to hear without someone
preaching? And how are
they to preach unless they
are sent?”
~ The Apostle Paul in
Romans 10:13-15
28. “God…through Christ reconciled us to
himself and gave us the ministry of
reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was
reconciling the world to himself, not
counting their trespasses against them…,
~ The Apostle Paul in
2 Corinthians 5:18-20
29. “…and entrusting to us the message of
reconciliation. Therefore, we are
ambassadors for Christ, God making his
appeal through us. We implore you on
behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
~ The Apostle Paul in
2 Corinthians 5:18-20
