The program is intended to support a few well defined projects
focused on preservation, digitization, valorization of archival
content
by various means : professional advice, equipment, training,
funding

4. Overview of the Program since 2012
2012 - Madagascar (Fl@h)
An association dedicated to the preservation and valorization of the the AV heritage in Madagascar
The collection :
500h of 35 & 16 mm film / newsreels, magazines, educational programs (1950-1980)
2000h from the National TV, saved after the riots (2009)
The collection is now almost saved, thanks to previous cooperation projects
The project / results : valorization, production of a series of short TV programs
FIAT/IFTA contribution : Purchase of AV production equipment

2013 – Zimbabwe (National Archive)
The collection :
Central Africa Film Unit (1948-1963)
300h of 16 & 35 mm film / newsreels, magazines, educational
programs
The project / results : preservation & digitization & access (with the idea to share a
light & mobile digitization station with other countries) / Still in progress
FIAT/IFTA contribution : Professional advice (The film transfer unit was not
available on the market)

2013 – South Africa (National Archive)
The collection : Nelson Mandela and ANC leaders’ trial », 1963-1964
Sound recordings / « Dictabelts » / 555 items / 270 h
Listed in the Memory of the World register
The project / Results : digitization, sound restoration, documentation / 290 DB
digitised, ~120h, including 108 DB & 50h of sound restaured
End of the digitization process : feb 2016 (and one more year for the sound
restoration)
FIAT/IFTA contribution : Contribution to the digitization services
Other contributors : National Archive, Ina, ENS Lyon - LARHRA

Purchase of 2 editing stations and LTO safe storage unit

Provision of cleaning machines (Beta, Umatic), and services for transfering the 2 inch tapes
