2. Software License Optimization
Implementation Service
This Software License Optimization Implementation Service
entails implementing FlexNet Manager Platform, either on-
premises or as a cloud/SaaS delivery model. The Platform
integrates with existing inventory tools, or uses its own
discovery and inventory technology to import hardware and
software inventory data. As part of this service, Flexera
Software Global Consulting Services consultants will configure
the integration of existing “Tier 1” inventory tools (see list
below) as required for the client’s IT environment. In addition,
the service will provide business adapter templates for building
the integrations to existing procurement and/or ERP systems
for collecting license entitlement and contract data. At the
conclusion of the service, the client will have the product
implementation and training necessary to perform
license reconciliations and determine their license
compliance position.
Objectives:
The Software License Optimization Implementation Service has
two primary objectives:
• Implement FlexNet Manager Platform so that inventory
and license entitlement data can be imported into the
system and license reconciliation can be performed by the
client to generate a License Compliance Position
(see diagram above).
• Provide the training necessary to enable the client to
perform license reconciliation and generate the reports
needed to understand their license compliance position
and reduce software costs.
Delivery Approach:
The Software License Optimization Implementation Service will
be carried out as follows:
• Install and configure FlexNet Manager Platform in the
client’s environment (for On-Premises delivery) or setup the
Inventory Beacon (for the Cloud delivery model).
• Implement Tier 1 inventory adapters as needed to import
hardware and software inventory data. Tier 1 inventory
tools include the following:
- FlexNet Manager Inventory
- Microsoft SMS/SCCM
- IBM ILMT
- Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
- Symantec Altiris
- BMC Atrium Discovery Dependency Mapping
(ADDM)
- HP Discovery Dependency Mapping Inventory (DDMI)
- BladeLogic Client Automation (Marimba)
- Tivoli EndPoint Manager (BigFix)
- Citrix XenApp Server
- Citrix XenApp EdgeSight
- Citrix XenDesktop
• Provide business adapter templates that can be used to
import license entitlement data, including Purchase Orders
(PO’s) and contracts.
• Provide online product training for the client SAM team.
• Conduct a workshop to enable customers to
reconcile licenses using FlexNet Manager Platform.

Example Timeline:
A Software License Optimization Implementation Service
engagement is typically 12 days in duration. This service
includes 100 hours of Flexera Software Global Consulting
Services consulting. The schedule assumes that all pre-requisites
set forth below have been met.
Deliverables:
Flexera Software will provide the following deliverables to the
client at the conclusion of the engagement:
• A fully functional FlexNet Manager Platform infrastructure
implemented either on-premises or via cloud delivery.
• Knowledge transfer for deploying Flexera Software inventory
agents, configuring inventory connections, importing
business data including license entitlements
(PO data).
• A documented solution implementation.
Service Prerequisites:
The following prerequisites must be met for the Software License
Optimization Implementation Service:
• Less than 5000 managed devices (desktops, laptops,
servers and virtual servers) are in the scope of the project.
•One or more Tier I inventory solutions in place OR
Flexera Software inventory agents to be deployed in
the client’s environment.
