Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was born on June 9, 1836. She was the second of
eleven children. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson’s parents were Newson Garrett and
Louise Dunnell. Their ancestors had been ironworkers since the early 17th century.
At age of 10, a governess, who was a poor gentlewoman, was employed to educate
Garrett and her sister.
Elizabeth joined the British Medical Association for 19 years. She was now a
licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries. Garrett was a physician and feminist. She
also created a medical school for women. In 1870, Garrett gained here M.D. in
University of Paris
Anderson’s accomplishments advanced technology in the medical terms. She
made the first women’s hospital that allowed women to work as staff, nurses, and
doctors. Her other accomplishments were getting women a little more rights. Her
accomplishments achieved equality. Now that women have more rights, it means
that more jobs open up for them.
