Namo Namo Budget
The wind of change has finally started blowing in India. As expected, NDA has come
to power by a huge mandate with Narendra Modi at its helm. The majority of Indians
have put their faith on Modi and his mantra of development. Modi’s agenda to revive
growth and create jobs spelled magic for BJP and its alliance NDA and the Congress-
led UPA did not have the slightest chance to form some resistance before such a strong
Modi Storm.
Now just after one and half month in power the brand new Modi government is going
to present its first Railways and Union Budget in a few day’s time. It is a significant
moment for both the government and the countrymen alike. For the Modi government,
it is time to actually put their words and promises into action and to show the
electorate that the government indeed cares for them. For the common people on the
other hand it is a moment to see their hopes and aspirations taking concrete shape. It is
the time to bring the promised Achchhe Din into a reality. The 2014-15 Union Budget
provides the NDA government with the first chance to do exactly that, and the
decisions taken in the first budget will give a clear roadmap as to which direction the
new government is heading to. While it is true that no miracle can be expected
overnight, and the promise of growth and development might still take some time to
materialise, but the budget will fail to satisfy the voters if it does not contain a vision
and a roadmap of what will be done in next three years. Therefore, it is the citizen’s
expectation that the budget will provide an outline of the economic philosophy of the
government and that it will be different from the budgets presented by the previous
government which they have just overwhelmingly rejected.
The new Modi government has already made it clear that it is going to take a slew of
measures targeted at curbing the inflation and at the same time spurring growth and
investment. At the same time the government has also indicated that it will not flinch
at taking some tough administrative reforms in order to ensure a sustainable
development of the nation even if those decisions goes against the interest of common
people. As the new government is busy drafting its maiden budget, what could
possibly be going on in the common people’s mind? Are they apprehensive about the
outcome, or are they confident about their choice of government? In order to get an
answer to these questions, we, at foreseegame.com, thought to resort to the people’s
court once again. Through our latest Opinion Square survey we presented a set of
questions that focuses on various aspects of economic and related developmental

aspects and asked whether these aspects would find a place in the upcoming Union
Budget 2014-15, or not. The survey results are overwhelming and it clearly shows that
the people of India have firm faith on their choice and they are absolutely hopeful that
the new government will strive to fulfill its promises to the countrymen.
Foreseegame.com is a unique portal of consumer engagement, which provides a
platform for two way communication and engagement between the brand and the
consumer using games of foresights. Microsec research is the research wing of
Microsec Capital having experienced analysts across the sectors. We used the online
feedback from the users of www.foreseegame.com. The users have been registered
only on the basis of unique mobile numbers and hence, it provides authenticity and
genuineness of the participants. The participation is being monitored by Google.
About 43,000 participants have contributed to the survey from all parts of India;
however the limitation of this sample is that it is from the group of people who are
users of internet.
The Take Away Points:
1. It is the income tax that hits common people’s pocket hard. 65% respondents are
hopeful that the Union Budget 2014-15 will keep that in mind and will increase
the basic exemption limit of income tax to bring some respite in their lives.
2. A better connected India is the dream of every citizen. 74% respondents,
therefore, are hopeful that the Union Budget will have important provisions for
bullet trains that will connect the remotest parts of the country.
3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stress on skill development of the country raised
hope in the education sector. People associated with the education sector are
optimistic that the Ministry will come up with concrete measures and 74% of the
respondents think the Union Budget will be a special fund for skilled India.

4. The medical and engineering fraternity of India has pinned their hope on the new
government and they are confident that Ministry will bring premier institutions like
AIIMS, IITs and IIMs to every state. 74% respondents believe the Union Budget will
give a roadmap for AIIMS, IITs and IIMs in each of the states.
5. The biggest challenge facing the new Modi government is the high inflation. The
government knows very well that India cannot get back on fast track unless inflation is
curbed. 73% of respondents, therefore, believe that the Union Budget 2014-15 will
have a special fund to tame the inflation monster.
6. India will not only become brighter, but safer too if electricity reaches every corner
of the country. Indeed, the first step towards growth is to make electricity reach home
of each and every Indian resident. 72% of the respondents believe that the Union
Budget will have adequate measure to ensure 24x7 electricity to each Indian.
7. India will head steadfast towards growth when its villages are truly developed. 73%
of the respondents think the Union Budget will have a provision for pacca house and
proper sanitation to each rural Indian family.
8. Cleansing the holy river Ganga of all impurities has always been one of the top
priorities of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he has already started working
towards achieving this goal. 76% of the respondents think that the Union Budget
2014-15 will have a special scheme for the Clean Ganga drive.
9. The new Modi government has already indicated that it wants to strike a balance
between the development of the Eastern states vis-a-vis the other states and will
address the issues and problems Eastern states go through. Therefore, 73% of the
respondents think that there will be a number of special schemes for the states in
Eastern India in order to make the states grow in tandem with the rest of India.
10. The city of Banaras holds a special place in his heart. Prime Minister Narendra
Modi made that clear when he decided to contest the election from there. Post victory
he has expressed his intention to make Banaras the cultural hub of the country. 73% of
respondents, therefore, think that the Union Budget too will have special schemes for
the ancient city.
