How to be a Media Celebrity

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Hello and welcome, I’m Kirsty Walker, content editor of End of Show dot com and I am here to show you how even desperate losers like you can become a media celebrity like me
  2. The first step is get your own website. Any idiot can have their own website and use tools like these little pictures to get people to spread your articles across the internet like an STD – but with words.
  3. This is a screencap of End of Show, taken on April 12th. As you can see from the targeted advertising at the top, the internet already thinks you’re single, just by virtue of you looking at the site
  4. Our content consists of interviews, reviews, news, liveblogs, podcasts and broadcast radio – produced by a dozen regular contributors. Some of these are journalism students, fans of specific shows and people we’ve met in bars.
  5. One of the breakthroughs for our site was our addition to Google news, which effectively puts us on the same footing as any other online news source, which is great for us, but pretty bad for them, as we can scoop actual paid journalists relatively easily. More on this later.
  6. We present a weekly live radio show on HCR 92.3 FM which is also broadcast online across the globe. Because of the lack of a listen again feature, we can pretty much make up any lie we want without ever being detected or held to account.
  7. We use Twitter to automatically tweet links to new articles, and also to liveblog things which think will be of interest. It is scientifically proven that our followers are smarter than those of rival entertainment site E! Online
  8. This is Ziggy, our digital recorder, on which we record our podcasts. They can then be downloaded to iTunes and listened to by anyone – including actors who may or may not have recognised my voice from a cast where I was talking about his cock.
  9. A recent addition to our media is a youtube channel, which recently started earning after we posted this exclusive on set video from Glee. Youtube pays revenue share of 0000000.001 of a cent per click so this video should start to pay off around 3015
  10. Our sources range from twitter to PR agencies to phone calls with TV companies and producers. One director or communications from an un-named network told me that his viewers were “a bunch of fucking irritating nerds” when I called him for a quote. It was off the record.
  11. I know what you’re thinking, less of these boring statistics and more on how I can become a famous media celebrity like Kirsty Walker – well like any endeavour first you need to see the prize which your eyes should be on. In the world of celebrity, the currency is not in dollars or pounds but in...
  12. In the world of media celebrities, success is measured in mojitos. From Entertainment Weekly to Variety to robertpattinsonfans.net this is the goal.Let’s look at some case studies.
  13. Our liveblog on the premiere of Celebrity Big Brother was one of our most popular articles of this year and gained us £5.60 in ad revenues. Enough to buy one mojito.
  14. The San Diego Comic-Con Stargate Universe launch party offered free, unlimited mojitos, but unfortunately I couldn’t remember anything about the pilot episode which was screened, except about four seconds of someone knocking at a door.
  15. So how do you maximise mojitos? As you can see there are four main ways in which End of Show maximises mojitos – exclusives, informed editorial, reputation and lies.
  16. An example of an exclusive is this cancellation announcement. Although sad for fans of Reaper, they were buoyed by star Tyler Labine commenting on EOS with “I fucking hate small minded people like you who have no clue what it’s like to be in this industry but are so quick to spit venom at us”
  17. In this editorial about fan reaction to the death of a character on Torchwood, we raised a lot of mojito money from the interest, but one commentor called it “the worst reporting since Hillsborough”.He was of course, wrong.
  18. I couldn’t actually think of anything to put here, so I added some pictures of us and our celebrity friends doing cool things, that’s the guy who played Chekov in the new star trek, me on the set of dollhouse, with someone from neighbours and at Comic Con
  19. In 2008 an editorial piece on EOS saying that the rise of vampires on screen would make a Buffy movie viable was picked up via Google news and ended up spreading so far that creator Joss Whedon had to make a statement after receiving phone calls from the cast.
  20. Good Luck!
