After opening gap down, the benchmark indices showed some signs of BSE Smallcap 7,005 7,148 (2.01) recovery but, the Nifty was unable to reclaim 4900 amid another round of sell-off in the European markets. Nifty Junior 9,864 9,940 (0.76) Main European equity indices fell by 2.5-4% following Thursday's massive losses. Asian stock markets also finished sharply lower and the US stock futures too pointed to another bad opening on Wall street. Finally, CNX Midcap 7,131 7,206 (1.04) the BSE Sensex ended at 16,142, losing 328 points. It had earlier touched a day's high of 16,287 and a day's low of 15,987 after opening at 16,237. The NSE Nifty closed at 4,846, down 99 points. Friday’s slump was led by IT and Capital Goods indices, both of which fell by over 4%.
