Sept 9, 2011 Volume: 1 | Issue: 389| November 1, 2010 INDIAN MARKET * 08-Sep 07-Sep % Change COMMENTARY BSE Sensex 17,166 17,065 0.59 INDIA NSE Nifty 5,153 5,125 0.55 Markets ended in the green after swinging between gains and losses for the major part of the day as BSE Midcap 6,490 6,474 0.26 heavyweight Reliance Industries reversed losses and buying interest emerged in the IT shares. Earlier in the BSE Smallcap 7,359 7,307 0.72 day, the Nifty touched a low of 5,098 in opening trades, tracking subdued Asian peers and recovered Nifty Junior 10,337 10,333 0.04 thereafter for a brief period. The markets received a fresh jolt around noon after food price index was reported close to double digits, at 9.6 percent for the second consecutive week, raising concerns that the CNX Midcap 7,513 7,508 0.06 Reserve Bank of India will continue to maintain a hawkish stance and raise interest rates by another 25 bps during the policy review next week. The markets reversed trend and turned positive in the latter half of the day following positive opening in Europe. Finally, the BSE Sensex ended at 17,166, adding 100 points. The GLOBAL MARKETS 08-Sep 07-Sep % Change NSE Nifty closed at 5,158, up 34 points. Small-Cap and Mid-Cap indices built on early gains in the afternoon Dow Jones Ind (USA) 11,296 11,415 (1.04) even as Large-Cap peers started advancing. Market breadth was positive, 1,733 stocks advanced, for 1,099 Nasdaq Composite(USA) 2,529 2,549 (0.78) stocks which declined on the BSE.
