25. Superficial Forearm Flexors
An easy way to remember the
muscles is to place your hand over
the anterior aspect of the opposite
elbow joint also known as the
cubital fossa
58. Anterior Forearm
Pronator Teres
Origin Humeral head from medial
epicondyle and supracondylar
ridge of humerus.
Ulnar head from medial border
of coronoid process of ulna
Insertion Middle of lateral surface of
radius
Action Pronates and flexes forearm
(at elbow)
Nerve Supply Median nerve (C6 and C7)
Blood Supply Ulnar artery, anterior
recurrent ulnar artery
59. Anterior Forearm
Flexor Carpi Radialis
Origin Common flexor origin medial
epicondyle of humerus
Insertion Base of 2nd and 3rd
metacarpal
with a slip to the scaphoid
Action Flexes and abducts hand (at
wrist)
Nerve Supply Median nerve (C6 and C7)
Blood Supply Ulnar artery
60. Anterior Forearm
Palmaris Longus
Origin Common flexor origin, medial
epicondyle of humerus
Insertion Distal half of flexor
retinaculum and palmar
aponeurosis
Action Flexes hand (at wrist) and
tightens palmar aponeurosis
Nerve Supply Median nerve (C7 and C8)
Blood Supply Ulnar artery
61. Anterior Forearm
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Origin Humeral head: common flexor origin,
medial epicondyle of humerus
Ulnar head: ulnar collateral ligament,
and coronoid process of ulna
Radial head: superior half of anterior
border of radius, anterior oblique line
Insertion Bodies of middle phalanges digits 2 –5
Action Flexes middle phalanges at proximal
interphalangeal joints of medial four
digits; acting more strongly, it also
flexes proximal phalanges at
metacarpophalangeal joints and
flexes hand at wrist joint
Nerve Supply Median nerve (C7, C8 and T1)
Blood Supply Ulnar artery
62. Anterior Forearm
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Origin Humeral head: common flexor
origin, medial epicondyle of
humerus
Ulnar head: olecranon and
upper 2/3rds posterior border
of ulna
Insertion Pisiform, hook of hamate, and
5th metacarpal base
Action Flexes and adducts hand (at
wrist)
Nerve Supply Ulnar nerve (C7 and C8)
Blood Supply Ulnar artery
