Literary Analysis Hinduism vs Christianity
“Religions throughout the world claim universal truths on what is means to be human and explaining the concept of a higher being. Hinduism and Christianity are two of the many religions. They share similarities as well as differences. The purpose of man, how enlightenment is achieved and what a god looks like are discussed in their respective sacred tests. It is intriguing to compare their answers. Christianity seems to concentrate on a more personal and intimate level whereas Hinduism practices an ascetic life to envelop a god of everything.” Introduction

What is the purpose of Man? The two religions centers this answer to Self awareness. Hinduism declares to follow dharma and a selfless servitude. "Do your duty to the best of your ability, O Arjuna, with your mind attached to the Lord, abandoning worry and selfish attachment to the results, and remaining calm in both success and failure. The selfless service is a yogic practice that brings peace and equanimity of mind." (Gida 2.48) There is an inescapable destiny Man must follow without question. Christianity, on the other hand, frees a person to fully involve themselves to God and others. "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these" (Mark 12:30-31). Man is incapable of loving God and others if he does not know how to love himself first. The awareness of self is absent in Hinduism unlike Christianity requiring its full discovery. Body Paragraph

“Hinduism and Christianity have similar elements addressing the significance of Man and God. In three different aspects, Man's purpose, Enlightenment and the face of God, helps to understand these two religions. Hinduism abandons Self and the enlightened sees god in everything. In opposition, Christianity seeks to acknowledge oneself and believes only in Jesus to be saved. The ability to see the deity demonstrates the gap between god and Man. Vishnu seems to be more mortal than God. Nonetheless, the relationship between God and Man is important to both religions.” Conclusion

Literary Analysis

  • 1. Literary Analysis Hinduism vs Christianity
