  4. 4. The MARCUS GPS fleet management system provides compelling returns on investment for fleet operators in a variety of ways. Customers save an average of $3,300 per vehicle per year with reductions in fuel costs, maintenance costs, and employee compensation costs, all while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which can be harmful to the environment. GAS SAVINGS: After installation, gas savings are typically achieved in three ways:  Reduction of Idle Time: By monitoring the length of time an employee is leaving the engine running while stopped, fleet managers can correct this behavior and reduce the amount of wasted gas each week. Potential annual savings range from $357.50 to $536.25 per vehicle, saving 130-195 gallons of fuel.  Route Optimization: Using the MARCUS Drive Dispatching system, fleets can be directed to new jobs through a Garmin PND by the shortest or fastest route. Dispatchers can view the real time location of the fleet and assign the closet vehicle to a new job or delivery.  Eliminating After Hours/Weekend Use: Employees can no longer drive the trucks for side jobs or off-time use without the fleet manager’s knowledge, resulting in extra fuel savings. EMPLOYEE COMPENSATION AND EFFICIENCY:  Overtime Pay Reduction: Remove potential overtime fraud by monitoring the actual hours in the field for any given week.  Regular Pay Optimization: By adding GPS to the vehicles, employees are now accountable as the GPS delivers a “virtual time sheet.” Adding only one new service call or delivery a week more than pays for the system.  Resolving Customer Disputes: Fleet managers can view reports showing the length of time a technician was at a particular address and prove to a customer that the billing record is correct. UNEXPECTED INTANGIBLES:  Stolen Vehicle Recovery: Recovery of only one stolen or abandoned vehicle filled with inventory or tools makes a dramatic difference to the bottom line.  Insurance Reduction: Fleet owners have been able to negotiate 5% -15% reductions in their vehicle insurance premiums.  Greening Your Fleet: Exceeding the speed limit by 5 mph results in an average fuel economy loss of 6%. Keeping up with regular maintenance can save a vehicle up to 165 gallons of gas per year. Lon Baxter Toronto, ON
