This document provides formulas to calculate different components of employment growth for a local industry: 1) NS is the national share component, calculated as local industry employment multiplied by the national average growth rate of total employment. 2) IM is the industrial mix component, calculated as local industry employment multiplied by the difference between the national industry growth rate and the national average growth rate. 3) RS is the regional shift component, calculated as local industry employment multiplied by the difference between the local industry growth rate and the national industry growth rate. It also provides the formula to calculate a location quotient and requests help filling in missing values for tables using data from Table 1.
