The July/August issue of American Journal of Health Promotion prints new review of health benefits
from Tai Chi and Qigong.
In the review is included controlled random trails on Tia Chi and Quigong interventions published in
peer review journals during 1993 and 2007. In total there were 6,410 participants.
A review of the health responses of both Tia Chi and Qigong establishes that both of these practices
do provide abundant health advantages for both physical and mental health which include areas of
the heart, immune system and over all well being.
The review supplies substantial proof basis of the practices for health of bones, cardio respiratory
fitness, physical activity, balance, excellence of life, fall prevention and physcological benefits.
Professor Shin Lin, Ph. D. , a professor with the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of
California, Irvine, states that Qigong is a common term that defines exercises heighten the flow of qi
meaning balance. Qigong merges together qi for energy and gong for work or exercise.
Tia Chi is definitive which concentrates on a course of 24 to 108 movements that have been around
historically for more than 19 generations. Professor Lin is also a member of the National Advisory
Council for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.
The research analysis recapped in the report displayed that routines made easier are more useful for
RCT's and are very useful in increasing health. Considering that fact, persons could forget learning
difficult routines other than for artistic and cultural intent.
Among the studies examined 27 regarded psychological symptoms, 23 examined falls and associated
risk elements, 19 examined cardiopulmonary reactions and 17 appraised quality of life. Other added
studies observed bone density, physical and immune functioning. The average participants age was
55 years old and for those studies which observed balance the average age used was 80.
2. Dr. Larkey states that is was not possible to blend the studies for statics and be able to conclude
reaction sizes, meaning how strong the proof available is for a lot of the results analyzed since the
interventions, the studies layout factors and measures were to far apart.
Dr. Larkey also stated that the researchers found absolute dependable proof of many advantages
from this type of exercise.
Dr. Lin concluded that Tai Chi and Qigong do maintain a lot of health benefits and should be granted
tremendous preference when a person is deciding on a exercise to practice.
The National Center for Health Statistics and the National Center for Complimentary and
Alternative Medicine NCCAM state that at a minimum 2.3 million adults have used Tai Chi.
Qigong also can aide in increased range of motion and adds to improving joint flexibility. Qigong also
is under study for the possibility of being a treatment for osteoporosis.
