Creative engineering A brief overview of my experience Gerard C J van den Berg
Brain training 1) Recognition of prior learning; the EVC program ,[object Object]
The outcome of the assessment sessions show proficiency in general management, strategic management, project management and a broad view on the consistency of functional diversity within an organization, combined with a creative and adaptive though pragmatic mindset
Also an excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering practices was recognized
These results lead to a two way path: Formalize and acknowledge the proven competences by creating a portfolio Complement the lacking knowledge by following the necessary education ,[object Object]
I have set my goals to accomplish this within 2.5 years from now (February 2010),[object Object]

  • 13. Creative thinking, smart solutions 2 Conception, developing, prototyping and testing of whiplash prevention devices, thirteen patents have been applied for in this whiplash research program Patented scratch free stacking machine for sensitive sheet metal, placed in line with cut-to-length systems and operating without magnetism or vacuum Linear robot with 4 or 5 axis for palletizing, big parts handling etc.; capable to combine an unlimited number of robot arms on a single base structure; accuracy, accessibility, high speed and large pay load capabilities are the main features Feasibility study and pre-design of a wet cleaning floor tile system; low energy consumption
  • 14. Heavy job made light and easy By adding robots and other equipment to the handling process the following was achieved: An increased press output from <90 to >120 strokes per minute More than doubled stack weight; 50kg instead of 20kg when manually operated Special equipment designed to ensure scratch free handling of the stacks along the path Various stacking solutions on different pallet sizes of sometimes odd shaped blanks Reduced operational manpower from four to one Handling of all different shapes at palletizing position by robot with multi purpose 3 finger end effector Automates robot settings and prints out a settings overview for all other machines by rational data input An ideal application for robots : working environment is hot and dry, with fumes, dust and high noise levels
  • 15. The iTechnology race 11 3 4 10 5 9 6 8 7 Since the early ’90ties technological changes have taken place rapidly. Between 1992 and 1997 I was directly involved in the research for, decision making and implementing of integrated business automation software. At that time we were already able to automate design processes by controlling design parameters and integrate the results (BOM’s) in the ERP software at project level. At the time a unique and very rare situation in the Dutch industry. Even today this sounds like Utopia for many managers. At the basis of this development lays my business software model for technologically driven enterprises, visualizing the continues communication between the different functional groups thru the software. The ERP software in this model is no more than it should be; a tool to achieve proper and manageable data administration and general control, by allowing the data transfer from each department into the system and vise versa. Today this concept still proves to be valid, after updating to the latest versions, at Terlet NV. 1 2 1 ERP software tool 2 Technology center 3 Marketing and sales 4 Finance and administration 5 Management 6 Work preparation 7 Purchase and procurement 8 Logistics and quality control 9 Production and assembly 10 Installation and service 11 Customers and competition
