Gerund?
• Gerund is a NOUN made from VERB by adding –ing. You
can use gerund either as:
– Subject of the sentence
e.g. Reading a lot helps you learning English.
– Object of the sentence
e.g. His hobby is reading.
• You can add NOT to make the sentence becomes negative.
e.g. He enjoys not working
The best thing for your health is not smoking.

Infinitive?
• Infinitive is to + BASE FORMof the verb. You can use this as:
• Subject of the sentence
e.g. To study is important for your future.
• Object of the sentence
e.g. What is important for your future is to study.
• You can add NOT to make the sentence becomes negative.
e.g. I decided not to go.
The important thing for achieving your success is
not to give up.
Can you differentiate these sentences?
• He enjoys swimming.
• He wants to swim.
• She suggests to go to a movie.
• She keeps talking about the movie all the time.
You may ask …
 How can I differentiate which verb that should go with
gerund or infinitive?
 Later, in your e-mail student, I will give you the list.
 But today, we only learn about: love, like, hate which should
be followed by GERUND.
 You don’t need to worry, then. 
Pay Attention.
Gerund can often be modified with POSSESSIVE forms
so that it can make the sentence clearer on who makes
the action.
e.g. I like their cooking.
She loves Siti Nurhaliza’s singing.
He hates his friend’s writing.
Pay Attention.
Gerunds are used after prepositions.
e.g. Leslie made up for forgetting my birthday.
He is thinking about studying abroad.
They admitted to committing the crime.

Write your favorite drama series(can be Indonesian, Korean,
American, it’s up to you!). In your writing, please tell:
• the general information of the drama series.
• the BRIEF synopsis of your favorite drama series.
• the reason why you like the drama series.
Write your composition NO MORE THAN15 – 20 SENTENCESin a
piece of ‘folio bergaris’. Separate the paragraph. Don’t forget to
