David’s comments: The figure of EUR 15000 as the netto salary per year I think very realistic, not to mention they will also receive holiday money 8% per year. If they can allocate half of their wage every month (which is also doable) to the loan payment, they can easily pay back the entire loan in 2 years. But it may also a common thing is that plenty of people (who just started working) have a tendency to “enjoy” money that they have earned lately. Some people experienced a change in their life style (from student to worker) which normally would raise their outflow. Thus I would agree with your statement about the 2-3 year to complete the debt payment. This is also taking into account that they need to go to back to Indonesia, either for holiday or for academic reason.
David’s comments: Specially for zoek jaar, from personal and other alumni experience, there is always opportunity to get a part time job along with the job searching process. However, they can’t expect very much from this part time, this would only enough to support their basic needs, such as housing, food and transport in case of interview invitation. For some of Indonesian, that is important to be not financially dependent from their parents as soon as their graduated, this might be a choice in case they can’t find a job directly after graduated With 3-4 days working (2 days in weekend) they can fulfil their basic needs, and still they have 3-4 days for the job searching and interviews. Wage for part-time is EUR 7-7.5/hour (below age 23), and EUR 8-8.5 (for age 23 and older), the maximum working time is 40 hour.
