Complexity is pursued because, critics, exclusion, position and status, Simplistic is simplicity without understanding Over Simp is discarding features and completeness in the pursuit of simplicity Simplicity is easy to overlook, difficult to understand, unlearn, difficult to convince needs more complete know-how and understanding and thereby deploy Change and inability to change [bigger role, complete perspective] leads to sustenance of simplicity Ego status hurdles where simple things are valued as not great career pursuits.
  4. The first tenet of simplcity is that it should become a value habit and a constant pursuit, Why use utilize when u can utilize use! There are some patterns to achieving simplicity Historical review >> question the basis by which the subject came into existence. E.g. >> Club signatures Arcane old Laws – Indian telegraph act! . Understand the history to unearth the improvements / issues in the subject. There could be attachment to historic legacy e.g. wine cask with screws! Normal claims are we hav always done it this way and it works! Questions are >> have we always done it this way? How did it come about? Can we improve or get rid of? Shedding slimming trimming >> 5 whys approach to the root of the matter [ problem or normal!] look at alternatives that can exist or not exist! Keep only those that matter or provide maximum return [ num / demon!] Provocation and dropping >> Provocate the current, especially required when the matter is the normal widespread acceptance e.g. horizontal oil drills, book covers why? What if is the question | What if there is no ticket, what if people are not there at a hotel reception, school need not have teacher!….. Pre analysis drop and observe unlike shedding which is post analysis. New dimensions are realized | Listening >> active passive, feedback [ MBWA, seeing , talking face to face, involvement etc.. ] , danger is listening to “used to” people may result in no changes. Identify the lazy they may give easier simpler solutions. There are 2 types of contributions, identifiers, solvers both are important. Done by consultants >> insiders blind eye | Out sides fresh eye to help re look | more context experience | specialization | politics and internal dynamics | not the focus – business outcomes | Combining >> are there situations where 2-3 more things or processes can be merged? There are additive [no inter-relationships, add-ons] and relative [inter-relationships, integrated ] combining. Multi step ->single window clearance | very natural for active people, talk, cook and cut! | sub assemblies . Combining should save and simplify one of the elements must become redundant removable. Extracting Concepts >> big picture, fundamental premise that drives the matter. Control over that gives a lot of scope for improvement. Concepts are most difficult to handle as they are virtual and difficult to comprehend. Su field analysis and function trees. Take a process and look at the driving concepts behind it.
