2. Based on my previous research I had a clear idea that my
magazine was going to be aimed at a mixed gender however
steering more towards men. However I thin throughout the
creation of my magazine I made the gender mix more equal
as originally I wanted to include my main image of a male
but I then changed my mind and used a female model as
this relates to Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze theory(1975)
which states that women are ‘looked at’ female image are
used for the gratification of men. Therefore I used a female
for my front cover as I knew it would attract a male target
audience but also female, at first I was worried using a
female model would only attract females, but I think due to
my cover lines and features it suits men too.
3. During my focus group I was able to discover the
age range of my audience which would be 18-30
because although my magazine may appeal to mid
teenagers too, 18 is the age when you can get into
clubs and my magazine is associated with
clubbing and festivals which you too have to be
older to go too. I do not however think this
restricts my target audience as if younger people
read my magazine it will give them something to
look forward too when talking about the festivals
and the clubs. The terminology I used in my
magazine also represents the age range because
again I have included stuff about festival which
only my target audience will know what it
is, where as if younger people read it they may
not have come across it before due to their age.
4. I expect the sort of people that will buy my magazine will be people who have
an interest in this music and the clubbing life because I have included features
about festivals and the best clubs. Therefore they will be in full/part time
employment in order to purchase my magazine and I think it will be groups of
people who buy my magazine rather than one person because festivals and
clubbing is a group things so I expect my audience will share the magazine
with their friends.
I used a specific tone with my magazine which made it quite chatty/informal
as I think this relates to my target audience more. Therefore In my double
page spread I included quotes from the artist Duffy to make it sound more
chatty and interesting for my readers.
