• Pride’s Characteristics
- Its Path –“The wicked, through the pride of his
countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in
all his thoughts” (Psa. 10:4; cf. Isa. 55:8; Jer. 10:23)
- Its Persecution –“The wicked in his pride doeth
persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices
that they have imagined” (Psa. 10:2; cf. Psa. 10:8-
10; Obad. 10-14; Luke 10:31-32)
- Its Pleasure –“For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s
desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the Lord

• Pride’s Characteristics
- Its Proclamation –“He hath said in his heart, I shall
not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity”
(Psa. 10:6, vs. 4, 11, 13; cf. Pro. 14:3; Exo. 5:2; Dan.

- Its Production –“His mouth is full of cursing and
deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and
vanity” (Psa. 10:7; cf. Psa. 10:14; Pro. 13:10; Pro.

• Pride’s Consequences – “An high look, and a proud
heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin” (Pro. 21:4; cf. Pro.
6:17)
- Shame –“When pride cometh, then cometh shame:
but with the lowly is wisdom” (Pro. 11:2; cf. Dan.
4:33)
- Brought Low –“A man’s pride shall bring him low:
but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit” (Pro.

- Destruction –“The Lord will destroy the house of
the proud: but he will establish the border of the

- Cut Off –“The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips,
and the tongue that speaketh proud things” (Psa.
12:3; cf. Isa. 13:11; Exo. 5:2; Exo. 14:28)
- Known Afar Off –“Though the Lord be high, yet
hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he
knoweth afar off” (Psa. 138:6)
- Day of the Lord –“For the day of the Lord of hosts
shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and
upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be
brought low” (Isa. 2:12; cf. Psa. 10:14-18)

- Fear the Lord –“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil:
pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the
froward mouth, do I hate” (Pro. 8:13; cf. Ecc. 12:13;
Acts 10:34-35)
- Humility –“Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the
proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit
yourselves therefore to God” (James 4:6-7; cf. 1 Pet.
5:6; Matt. 5:3)

- Examine Our Concern – Are we concerned only
with self or with our neighbor? (Obad. 10-14; cf.

- Examine Our Confidence – Are we confident in our
ourselves or is our confidence in God? (Obad. 3-4;
cf. Deut. 6:10-12; 1 Tim. 6:17)
- Examine Our Cooperation – Are we cooperating in
the things of the world or in the things of God?
(Obad. 11; cf. James 4:4; Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 6:17)

satisfied with where we are or are we desirous of

consequences of our choices what we want? (Obad.
