3. Paying the price is important not from the
point of just justice, paying the price is
important from the point of you making
examples. And those examples are very
important in any country for the process of
nation building, very important from the point
of character building, and very important from
the point of view of emphasizing a certain
extremely high standard of values whether it
be political life, whether it be administrative
life or whether it be in business life.

4. I want to emphasize so far as you as
leaders are concerned getting into
business, you have to be different, you
have to be standing by certain principles,
you have to be standing by certain values
and you have to be standing by making a
sacrifice for those principles and the
sacrifice for those values.

5. And I would also like to emphasize that the
phenomenon is just not limited to Indian
companies because we always tend to put
Indian companies in a second bracket to
multinational companies. The phenomenon
of compromise of ethics is just as much
present in international companies as it is in
Indian companies.

6. You build a different kind of an
organization, you build a different kind
of a team, you build a different kind of
a self-respect in you, you build a
different kind of a muscle tone in the
team and the gains which you get
from it are significantly more than the
price you pay for it.
- Gain of being consistent

7. Education has a value, education has a value
because it trains you to be able to do
something. It trains you to question. It trains
you to be able to analyse. It trains you
particularly in terms of the education which
you have gone through to be leaders, to be
able to work with teams, to be able to work
with teams across various functions which
you deal with and it trains you also in
terms of a certain amount of self-confidence

Value of that self-confidence you
got to carry out into your roles in
terms of standing firm and being
examples. I really ask you to really
stand out on this because, if you
really a stand out on this, you can
make a difference.
- Impact of self-confidence
9. You must also realize that even if the system
is corrupt, moderately corrupt, incredibly
corrupt or terribly corrupt, the system has
exceptions. Our government, our colleagues,
our bureaucrats, our environment has many
exceptions of the highest integrity. And those
exceptions of the highest integrity really got
to be built on, leveraged and argued
with and supported.
- Support the exceptions from corruptions

The unfortunate problem with our newspapers is
they only carry what is headline news and just
repeating that headline news. And then they transit
from the headline news to the next headline news.
Unlike I’m not a great admirer of America
necessarily but unlike American newspapers when
they find an issue which is of public concern, they
go cradle to grave on it and really bring it to a
conclusion via punishment to people who are
responsible for it, so that examples are set.
