3. The Facts Sound … Is a form of energy produced & transmitted by vibrating matter Travels in waves Travels more quickly through solids than liquids or gases A wave is a repeating disturbance or movement that transfers energy through matter or space

4. The water waves below are carrying energy. Waves can only exist as they have energy to carry.

7. The sound waves cause pressure changes against our ear drum sending nerve impulses to our brain.

8. Sound waves move through 3 parts of the ear; outer ear, middle ear, & inner ear.

23. For example,Humans use sonar to locate or map objects Animals use sonar or echo location to find their prey; these sounds have such a high pitch or frequency that the human ear cannot hear

26. Another way to make different pitches is to change the thickness of the material that vibrates.

27. For example:A trombone’s mute absorbs some of the sound waves produced, thus producing a softer note when played.
