This document summarizes a seminar presentation on developing a self-sustaining canal and irrigation system. The major crops grown in the region include rice, maize, groundnuts, cotton, chilies, and sugarcane. Currently, water is brought to fields through long pipes and pumps requiring a lot of fuel. The presentation proposes using water level indicators to open gates and allow water to flow through multiple levels to farms. The collected water could then be pumped back for reuse in a renewable irrigation system using drip irrigation, sprinklers, or bore watering.
