  Resources for Students
    with Special Needs
             By: Christine Peak
     These websites offer many educational
resources that are available so we can ensure
to teach the needs for all students. Many of
these resources are simple tools that are fit
specifically to the need of that individual
child’s disability. Teachers with these types of
resources can help and ensure they are
providing their students with the best
                education possible.

Assistive Technology to Meet K-
           12 Needs

                 Students may need
                    anything from
                    physical, verbal, or visual
                    prompts to high
                    technology devices and
                    services.

                 The more technology a
                    device usually
                    requires, and the more
                    maintenance, the more
                    costly it is as well.

Reflection
The quote I find to be most useful, and somewhat inspiring is as
follows, “The secret to communicating with anyone may be to
suspend previous judgments of how the world must be sensed and
separated, and to understand that life can be seen in many ways
(Do2Learn.com).” This quote should be used to remind all teachers
that, especially children, cannot be previously judged. The first
“aha” is referring to comparing our use of senses to ones of those
who lack them (a child with special needs). We take for granted
our sense of touch, vision, hearing, speaking, etc. on a daily basis
and when we see children with special needs it reminds us just
how separate our realities our. Another “aha” is how certain tools
such as music can be so calming and helpful to children with
autism. Some autistic kids adapt well to different strategies better
than others, but music has been proven to be very calming. The
last “aha” moment is I didn’t realize how much Autistic kids lack
in pincher skills (fine motor skills, using their fingers).
Eating, gripping, etc. are such difficult tasks for them and there
are many activities found on here that can help with this.

ISER (Internet Special Education
Resources)
 ISER offers
    children, parents
    and families
    educational
    materials in a
    wide variety of
    backgrounds.
 This directory is
    nationwide and
    when searching
    for professionals
    and resources it
    is done so in this
    way.
Reflection
The centralized theme I chose while doing my PowerPoint
involved resources for children with special needs. I chose
this topic because I will be entering my blocks in the fall to
become a special education teacher, and I feel it will not
only be useful to myself but others as well. As a special
education teacher and a teacher in general, it is important
to learn to adapt to the needs of each student in the
classroom as an individual. Through research and the
availability of resources over the internet, in libraries, from
professionals, etc. every child is able to get the education
they deserve. There are many tools available to assist a
teacher when teaching a student who lacks a certain
functionality. I believe it is our responsibility as teachers to
provide every tool possible to enrich education, we chose
to teach, they did not choose a disability.
“Recognizing and respecting differences in others, and treating
everyone like you want to be treated, will help make our world a
better place for everyone. Care… be your best. You don’t have to
be handicapped to be different. Everyone is different!” –Kim Peek

  • 8. Reflection The quote I find to be most useful, and somewhat inspiring is as follows, “The secret to communicating with anyone may be to suspend previous judgments of how the world must be sensed and separated, and to understand that life can be seen in many ways (Do2Learn.com).” This quote should be used to remind all teachers that, especially children, cannot be previously judged. The first “aha” is referring to comparing our use of senses to ones of those who lack them (a child with special needs). We take for granted our sense of touch, vision, hearing, speaking, etc. on a daily basis and when we see children with special needs it reminds us just how separate our realities our. Another “aha” is how certain tools such as music can be so calming and helpful to children with autism. Some autistic kids adapt well to different strategies better than others, but music has been proven to be very calming. The last “aha” moment is I didn’t realize how much Autistic kids lack in pincher skills (fine motor skills, using their fingers). Eating, gripping, etc. are such difficult tasks for them and there are many activities found on here that can help with this.

  • 12. The centralized theme I chose while doing my PowerPoint involved resources for children with special needs. I chose this topic because I will be entering my blocks in the fall to become a special education teacher, and I feel it will not only be useful to myself but others as well. As a special education teacher and a teacher in general, it is important to learn to adapt to the needs of each student in the classroom as an individual. Through research and the availability of resources over the internet, in libraries, from professionals, etc. every child is able to get the education they deserve. There are many tools available to assist a teacher when teaching a student who lacks a certain functionality. I believe it is our responsibility as teachers to provide every tool possible to enrich education, we chose to teach, they did not choose a disability. “Recognizing and respecting differences in others, and treating everyone like you want to be treated, will help make our world a better place for everyone. Care… be your best. You don’t have to be handicapped to be different. Everyone is different!” –Kim Peek Conclusion
