Topic/Theme “The Lion and the Mouse” fable by Aesop.
Key Concept The purpose of a fable is to teach moral values in a fun and engaging manner.
Skills Learn new vocabulary words. Identify moral teachings in fables. Prepare a Power Point presentation.
Values Not being judge mental of others.
Teaching Strategies Technology Integration Action Research Direct instruction
Teaching Techniques Class Discussion. Use of Visual Aids (movies). Use of Power Point presentation.
Assessment Activities Art integration. Learning through games. Oral presentation using Power Point.
Grade – Level Expectations L/S.8.2 Listens, responds to, analyzes, gives, and discusses complex instructions, statements, and directions; answers and formulates closed and open-ended questions. L/S.8.3 Uses appropriate language structure to interact in discussions and presentations, to problem solve, explain a process, and express opinions integrating comparison and contrast statements to interact in discussions and presentations.
R.8.1 Analyzes the text, establishes purpose, identifies author’s purpose, and distinguishes text features to enhance comprehension. R.8.4 Sorts and organizes relevant events, states cause and effect, makes connections, predictions, and inferences, determines problem and solution, and draws conclusions in narrative, expository, and persuasive texts.
NETS Standards NETS standards for Teachers #2 design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. b.     develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all   students to pursue their individual curiosities and become         active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress c.     customize and personalize learning activities to address students’diverselearning styles, working strategies, and abilities using         digital tools and resources d.   provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology       standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.
Objectives Through the discussion of the fable “The Lion and the Mouse” the students will be able to:  Complete a pre test on values and openly discuss the value of not judging people before  knowing them. Complete a quiz about “The Lion and the Mouse”. Prepare a Power Point presentation on research done about Aesop and his fables.
Materials You Tube video. Pre test on values “The Lion and the Mouse” image. Vocabulary words with images “The Lion and the Mouse” video. “The Lion and the Mouse” Quiz.
Initial Routine The teacher will greet the students. Roll call
Initial Activity
Developmental Activities The teacher will administer a pre test on values. The students will discuss the concept of not judging people by how they look. The teacher will introduce the fable by asking what they think the fable is about. The teacher will discuss new vocabulary words. The teacher will play the video “The Lion and the Mouse”.
Pre - test 1. I am at a park when all of a sudden a lady with a child in a wheelchair sits next to me…I…. ,[object Object]
  Smile at them and go on my way.
   Say hello and start a conversation,[object Object]
    Ask him if he needs help.
   Ignore him, maybe we won’t notice me.,[object Object]
   am happy to be tutored by someone new, maybe we can become friends!
  tell my best friend to help me even though she isn’t all that good at Math either.,[object Object]
   stay around but don’t interact, what would I have in common with elderly people anyway?
   make an effort to get to know them, they seem like very nice people.,[object Object]

Closing Activity The Lion and the Mouse Quiz How did the Mouse avoid a bad plight in the beginning of the fable? ,[object Object]
