                       <br />EXCAVATOR DRIVER KILLED<br />IN COLLISION WITH PASSANGER TRAIN<br />Excavator driver killed in collision with passenger train.<br />On May the 5th, around about 11:30am a 25 year old excavator driver was killed by a train nearby new bridge station.<br />A police woman confirmed the train which was not derailed had minor damage to the first carriage and the ambulance men said the train driver had to be treated for shock.<br />Nobody knows why this man was doing track work<br />At the time knowing that the XPT passes through there every day. <br />I think the article should have more detail.<br />Worker hit by passenger train<br />By GEORGINA ROBINSON - Sydney Morning Herald<br />A young excavator driver doing trackwork was killed today when a passenger train carrying 77 people crashed into him near Bathurst, in central western NSW, NSW Ambulance says.<br />The 25-year-old man was working about three kilometres on the Bathurst side of Newbridge station, south-east of Blayney, an ambulance spokesman and RailCorp said.<br />The crash comes less than a month after a 59-year-old track cleaner was hit and killed by a train as he tried to scramble onto the platform at Kogarah station, in Sydney's south.<br />Police have confirmed the collision did not occur at a crossing and a RailCorp spokesman said access to the crash site was ''difficult''.<br />A man in his 20s was treated for a cut to his head and all passengers were walking on the track west towards Newbridge station, an ambulance spokesman said.<br />None of the passengers or train crew needed to be taken to hospital, the spokesman said.<br />A CountryLink XPT train travelling from Sydney to Dubbo, with 71 passengers and six crew members on board, collided with the excavator about 11.30am.<br />The train, which was not derailed, had minor damage to the front carriage, a police spokeswoman said.<br />quot;
We've been told there haven't been many injuries [but] we're going to have to establish a crime scene and prepare a report for the coroner,quot;
 she said.<br />The train driver was being treated for shock, an ambulance spokesman said.<br />The train was being driven back to Bathurst station, where all passengers would be taken by bus to their destinations, a RailCorp spokesman said.<br />The train line is leased and managed by Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), a private company that manages 4400 kilometres of interstate track.<br />ARTC spokesman Brian Vale said the man was a contractor who was performing trackwork on the line.<br />Mr Vale would not comment further on what work was being done or why the excavator was on the line when the train came through.<br />quot;
The circumstances of the accident are under investigation by the coroner as well as the relevant rail safety authorities,quot;
 he said.<br />A Newbridge resident said the train was part of a daily service that usually passed Newbridge train station between 11am and 11.15am.<br />The train leaves Sydney's Central Station at 7.10am and arrives in Dubbo at 1.40pm.<br />Julie Woods, the owner of the Gladstone Hotel in Newbridge, said the town was ringing with the sound of fire trucks and ambulance sirens.<br />quot;
