TRIAGE Triage is used in medical emergencies, as a system to sort the injured so that the greatest number of patients can be helped. In medical emergency situations where there are more injured people than there are medical resources to care for them, triage allows doctors or other health care professionals to decide which people can be helped the most, and how to help them efficiently.

Background The electronic recording of patient information in ambulance services has provided healthcare professionals with the ability to send patient data to their GP or other relevant services electronically. It is critical to comprehend how paramedics view and adjust to electronic platforms as technology continues to advance. Objective To identify the facilitators and barriers EMS staff encounter when using e PCR. To explore the overall perception of EMS staff towards the utilization of e PCR in EMS settings. Method Four databases were searched including PubMed, Scopus, Medline and Science Direct. Result All 11 publications were evaluated for qualitative data and the publication was found to be of fair or good quality. Studies investigating the perception of staff found mixed perceptions. The search generated a total of 1365 potential articles. After the initial screening process, 229 duplicate records were removed Out of the remaining 1136 papers, 1079 were excluded as they did not meet the selection criteria the title, abstract, and keywords. Of the remaining 57 papers, a full text screening eliminated 46 for the study design quantitative studies n=22 , no perception of staff documented n=19 and no full text available n=5 . Thus, 11 papers that met the inclusion criteria were selected for final analysis. The risk of bias was quantified using CASP. A qualitative synthesis was conducted and three major themes emerged Facilitators, Barriers and overall perception of staff. Conclusion This systematic review found that EMS staff hold complex and diverse views on e PCR systems. While several facilitators and barriers impact e PCR adoption, it has been found that e PCR has the potential to enhance documentation, communication, data driven decision making and finally the ability to improve overall patient care quality. To ensure successful adoption, addressing technical issues, data security and training requirements and organisational barriers is important. This chapter introduces two approaches to knowledge building from clinical data: (1) knowledge discovery and data mining (KDDM) and (2) practice-based evidence (PBE). The use of machine learning methods in retrospective analysis of routinely collected clinical data characterizes KDDM. KDDM enables us to efficiently and effectively analyze large amounts of data and develop clinical knowledge models for decision support. PBE integrates health information technology (health IT) products with cohort identification, prospective data collection, and extensive front-line clinician and patient input for comparative effectiveness research. PBE can uncover best practices and combinations of treatments for specific types of patients while achieving many of the presumed advantages of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Introduction Leaders need to foster a shared learning culture for improving healthcare. This extends beyond the local department or institution to a value for creating generalizable knowledge to improve care worldwide. Sound, rigorous methods are needed by researchers and health professionals to create this knowledge and address practical questions about risks, benefits, and costs of interventions as they occur in actual clinical practice. Josephine Briggs, MD Director National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine National Institutes of Health Opening Keynote "Research in an IT Connected World: Building Better Partnerships – NIH and Health Care Systems" The era of ‘Big Data’ has arrived for biomedical research, bringing with it immense challenges as well as spectacular opportunities. NIH is establishing major programs with the potential to transform the future of US biomedical research by building the capacities necessary for these challenges. These programs will strengthen research partnerships with health care systems and the IT networks that support them. The Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) initiative, to be launched in 2014, will implement a set of recommendations from the Data and Informatics Working Group to the Advisory Committee to the Director. Investments are planned to meet scientific needs to manage and utilize large complex datasets, including strengthening training, and investing in improved analysis methods and software development and dissemination. NIH is also evaluating strengthening data and software sharing policies, and the potential creation of catalogs of research data, and data/metadata standards. The Common Fund’s Health Care Systems (HCS) Research Collaboratory program has the goal to strengthen the national capacity to implement cost-effective large-scale research studies by engaging major health care delivery organizations as research partners. The aim of the program is to provide a framework of implementation methods and best practices that will enable the participation of many health care systems in clinical research. Research conducted in partnership with health care systems is essential to strengthen the relevance of research results to health practice. Seven demonstration projects, currently in a feasibility phase, are developing detailed methods to implement rigorous randomized studies of questions of major public health impact. These studies, and the IT infrastructure that will make them possible, will be described in detail.

Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) contain patients’ history related to their medication, vaccine, test results and insurance information. EMRs need to be stored to facilitate the application of clinical treatment and prevention protocols. Clustering algorithms automate the process of information extraction and support health data management. Hence, in this mapping study, we systematically examine the literature on clustering algorithms used for analysing EMRs. We focus on studies published in 2016-2021 to present an overview of clustering techniques used in these studies to analyse medical data. We found 27 studies on clustering techniques, clustering technique problems and the evaluation parameters for analysing EMRs. However, although several studies have focused on this topic, only a few have taken the significant step of examining the clustering techniques used for analysing medical data particularly electronic medical record. Our results highlight that three clustering techniques have been used to analyse medical data, namely, the partitioning, the hierarchical and the density-based algorithms. We identified several clustering technique problems and 10 different evaluation parameters. The results suggest that researchers should focus on analysing medical data that will drive data-driven decision-making by management and promote a data-driven culture to ensure health care quality.

It was opened in an environment characterized with increasing number of new family residences. Dr. Thompson acted as the manager and the owner of the clinic and was assisted by two registered nurses named Maria Costa and Vivian Halliday. The two nurses play rotational duties where one takes care of the front desk while the other one assists Thompson during patient visits. This situation puts the two nurses in a busy environment. Patients have been used to waiting for long hours to be attended to. This situation worsens in case one nurse is absent. Thompson needs new nurse or physician since the clinic has three examination rooms. According to him, this would reduce patients’ waiting time, aid in growing the clinic and also providing better service to patients. The operation of the clinic is paper work. The front office computer is only used for stand-alone appointment scheduling and internet connection. The clinic is faced with various challenges in its operations. Due to paper work system, there is no quick way to check in patients. This results to wastage of valuable time for the doctor. There is also risk of losing patients files hence making it difficult during looking up patient’s history. Longer time is taken in pulling the files for all patients with appointment. These challenges called for Electronic Health Records which enables smooth operation of the clinic. I. Organizational Analysis and Requirements A. Introduction This section includes the goals that will be supported by introduction of an EHR system. It also discusses the components of information system which include people, technology, processes and data. It also identifies essential requirements for the EHR system. B. Strategic Use of Technology 1. To see the clinic operate more efficiently and make some financial profit for expanding and upgrading the clinic. 2. To improve the quality of care, safety and financial management decisions of the clinic. 3. The presentation explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) from its inception to its current status in the modern world. The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications.
