There are four basic types of tissues in the body: epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue forms the covering and lining of organs and body structures. Connective tissue binds and supports other tissues and includes bone, cartilage, blood, and fibrous tissue. Muscular tissue is made up of muscle cells and is responsible for body movement. Nervous tissue transmits signals throughout the body.
