This work is known as one of the best studies reviewing the demand side of the money function. When it was first published in Turkish language, it was accepted as a class textbook by the reputable universities (e.g. Hacettepe University, Ankara) in the country.
The basic problems dealt with by macroeconomics are the determination of the level of national income and employment, the determination of the price level and its rate of change, and the determination of the long-run rate of growth of income. In order to deal with these problems economists have found it necessary to construct models of macroeconomy that take into account many more variables than those they are primarily interested in understanding.
Although there exists substantial literature on the role of monetary factors in economic growth models, it is nevertheless the case that money has never played as central role in the analysis of the growth processes as it has in that of short-run income and price determination.
The predictions that short-run models make about the interrelationship between variables in the economy depend critically upon what is assumed to be true about the manner in which the supply and demand for money interact. It is not possible deduce from any first principles which particular assumptions about the money market are reasonable. Strong a priori cases can be made out in support of several differing theories of how money market operates. It is only by reference to empirical evidence that any conclusion about which theory is the most acceptable can be reached.
It is primary aim of this book to describe the current state of knowledge about the demand side of the money market. The first two chapters set out the macroeconomic model that forms the core of most textbooks on the subject and show how the money market fits into it. It is also shown how different views about the nature of the demand for money function lead to different and sometimes contradictory conclusions about how the model works as a whole. Part II turns to a more detailed discussion of the theories underlying the various forms of the demand for money function that can be included in such a macroeconomic model. Part III describes and assesses these competing theories in the light of available empirical evidence and offers some suggestions about the broader macroeconomic implications of this evidence.

Dr Haluk F GURSEL, DEMAND for MONEY from LAIDLER, November 2022 .pdf
1. This work is known as one of the best studies reviewing the demand
side of the money function. When it was first published in Turkish
language, it was accepted as a class textbook by the reputable universities
(e.g. Hacettepe University, Ankara) in the country.
The basic problems dealt with by macroeconomics are the
determination of the level of national income and employment, the

determination of the long-run rate of growth of income. In order to deal
with these problems economists have found it necessary to construct

Although there exists substantial literature on the role of monetary
factors in economic growth models, it is nevertheless the case that money
has never played as central role in the analysis of the growth processes as
it has in that of short-run income and price determination.
The predictions that short-run models make about the
interrelationship between variables in the economy depend critically upon
what is assumed to be true about the manner in which the supply and
demand for money interact. It is not possible deduce from any first
principles which particular assumptions about the money market are
