How To Avoid Asthma Triggers And Attacks
Not being able to breathe freely is one of the most frightening things in life. For those that have
asthma, this is fairly common, but it does not have to be. By avoiding what triggers your asthma
attacks and symptoms, you can breathe easier and live a much more enjoyable life with your
condition.




Reflux is one thing that can cause asthma attacks in some people. If you have noticed this being a
problem for you, you need to avoid foods and beverages that cause reflux. For those with reflux, you
should avoid sodas, hot and spicy foods, foods with a high acid content and foods that are high in fat.
By staying away from these foods, you can stay away from reflux and lower your chances of having
an asthma attack.




Another way you can keep your asthma under control is by not letting allergens into your house. On
nice days, you may want to open the windows and let fresh air in, but that is not a good idea for those
with asthma. Along with the nice, fresh air comes allergens that can kick up an allergy attack.




Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight can cause more asthma attacks and other symptoms
and make it harder for you to breathe freely. More weight means more pressure from fat on your
lungs, which makes it harder for you to breath.




Stay away from cigarette smoke. It is not only important for you not to smoke, but you should avoid
secondhand smoke altogether. Cigarette smoke in your lungs makes it much harder for you to
breathe and can trigger an asthma attack. You might notice other types of smoke irritating you as
well.




Use a dehumidifier in your home. This will help you make the air you breathe moist, which is good for
your lungs. Asthma can flare up at night, so running the dehumidifier while you sleep, in your room,
can be very helpful.




Change the air filters in your home on a regular basis. The air filters in your home help filter out all the
dust in the air; the cleaner your filter, the cleaner your air.




Pets are a common trigger for asthmatics. Do not let pets in your home as their dander can settle in
your furniture and flooring. Pet dander is not healthy when it gets into your lungs. If animals cause
problems for you, do your best to avoid them as much as possible.




Keep your house as clean as possible. In a house there are many different things that can irritate
your lungs and can cause asthma attacks. By dusting and vacuuming on a regular basis you can
keep these irritants down and hopefully cut down on the symptoms related to asthma.




Following the guidelines above does not guarantee that you will be free from asthma attacks, but it
