 CII, CCP, Hitachi India and Siemens sign Smart City MoU
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) for the latter’s Smart City mission. CII has formed a special
committee comprising industry, institutions and thought leaders that will discuss and plan the Smart City
mission. CII will work closely with the central government and CCP to promote opinions on critical issues
by interacting with policy makers and helping to establish best practices in the implementation of the
Smart City project. The three basic objectives for Smart Cities setup by the CII are creation of
employment, efficient delivery of goods and services and encouragement for recreation, culture and
ecological sustainability, by increasing the use of open spaces. Further, the CII has signed two separate
MoUs, with Hitachi India and Siemens, for the implementation of pilot projects in Smart Cities. The MoU
is part of a national level pilot project launched by the CII as part of the national mission on Smart Cities.
 UP’s first Smart City project commences
Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) first Smart City project involving housing and commercial properties - Navyug - has
taken off. Located in Allahabad on the Allahabad-Kanpur highway, this is UP’s first Smart City project in
the greenfield category. Valued at INR 600 crore, the project will be developed by the private sector,
with integrated real estate and infrastructure consultants, REPL, as the knowledge partner. REPL has
been empanelled by the central government as specialist consultants for developing Smart Cities across
the country. Navyug would offer facilities such as regular power supply, world class communication
system with optical fibre connection, sewage treatment plant (STP), among others. For the sewage
system and STP, it will have sensors to ensure periodic cleaning and all day to day issues relating to civic
and municipality would be tackled internally. Housing and office spaces in Navyug would be ready for
possession in two and half years.
 PMC completes second phase of Smart City project
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a three phase vision document to streamline its
Smart City programme. The first phase of the 'door-to-door’ contact programme, to get suggestions and
feedback from citizens, was conducted in September. The PMC had targeted to reach 7.5 lakh properties
in the city, but could cover only 40 percent of it. The second phase was started in the first week of
October and focused on micro-level solutions. In this phase, students from private colleges and National
Students Service and 800 volunteers used smartphones and tablets to collect data. Citizens gave their
suggestions online as well. The PMC has received over 13 lakh votes for its 'vision document drive' in the
second phase. Future project schemes for the Smart City will be based on citizens’ inputs.

Investment News
 Malaysia plans to invest in Smart City
State-owned Malaysian enterprise, Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), has announced an
investment of USD 30 billion in urban development and housing for India’s Smart City projects. CIDB
gave presentations on concept plans for two proposed projects - redevelopment of the area adjacent to
New Delhi Railway Station as a mini-smart city and a green city project at Garhmukhteshwar in UP. The
projects will involve housing and cleaning of the river Ganga. Of the proposed amount, USD 24 billion
has been allocated for the redevelopment project in New Delhi, while USD 4 billion will be spent on the
green city project in UP. The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), under the Ministry of
Urban Development, will be associated with these projects.
 Sweden to support Mumbai Smart City
Sweden has offered its expertise to help Mumbai develop into an economically, ecologically and socially
sustainable Smart City. At a meeting of the Swedish Ministry of Urban Development and IT and the

 India inviting BRICS nations to invest in Smart City initiative
At a meeting of Ministries of Industries of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), India
invited all the alliance nations to actively participate in the country’s flagship initiatives including Smart
Cities, Make in India and Skill India. To attract foreign investment, the government has lowered
corporate taxes and renewed emphasis on public investment in infrastructure. Further, the 100 Smart
Cities programme in India is opening up huge investment and business opportunities for foreign
investors, especially since the liberalization of FDI limit in railways, defence and insurance sectors and
the revival of the coal and mining sectors. All these will create immense opportunities for companies
from BRICS countries to work, invest and support India to achieve its goals.

CII has formed a special committee comprising industry, institutions and thought leaders that will discuss and plan the Smart City mission. CII will work closely with the central government and CCP to promote opinions on critical issues by interacting with policy makers and helping to establish best practices in the implementation of the Smart City project. The three basic objectives for Smart Cities setup by the CII are creation of employment, efficient delivery of goods and services and encouragement for recreation, culture and ecological sustainability, by increasing the use of open spaces. Further, the CII has signed two separate MoUs, with Hitachi India and Siemens, for the implementation of pilot projects in Smart Cities. The MoU is part of a national level pilot project launched by the CII as part of the national mission on Smart Cities.  UP’s first Smart City project commences Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) first Smart City project involving housing and commercial properties - Navyug - has taken off. Located in Allahabad on the Allahabad-Kanpur highway, this is UP’s first Smart City project in the greenfield category. Valued at INR 600 crore, the project will be developed by the private sector, with integrated real estate and infrastructure consultants, REPL, as the knowledge partner. REPL has been empanelled by the central government as specialist consultants for developing Smart Cities across the country. Navyug would offer facilities such as regular power supply, world class communication system with optical fibre connection, sewage treatment plant (STP), among others. For the sewage system and STP, it will have sensors to ensure periodic cleaning and all day to day issues relating to civic and municipality would be tackled internally. Housing and office spaces in Navyug would be ready for possession in two and half years.  PMC completes second phase of Smart City project The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a three phase vision document to streamline its Smart City programme. The first phase of the 'door-to-door’ contact programme, to get suggestions and feedback from citizens, was conducted in September. The PMC had targeted to reach 7.5 lakh properties in the city, but could cover only 40 percent of it. The second phase was started in the first week of October and focused on micro-level solutions. In this phase, students from private colleges and National Students Service and 800 volunteers used smartphones and tablets to collect data. Citizens gave their suggestions online as well. The PMC has received over 13 lakh votes for its 'vision document drive' in the second phase. Future project schemes for the Smart City will be based on citizens’ inputs.
