The annual Family
Fireworks and bonfire
display.
Bonfire night. Time to celebrate Guy
Fawkes and his ill fated attempt to blow up
the Houses of Parliament. 5.30pm and the
gates to the Hadley Wood Association’s
grounds are open. A fine night. The families
are coming in. Familiar faces everywhere.
In the car park the Ghost train is rolling
and the stalls in place. An evocative smell
of coffee and hamburgers drifts from
the caterers. Night falls and the old
roundabouts light up, magically
rejuvenated. The marshalls, fresh from
Graham Sharp’s briefing meeting, struggle
into their Hi Viz jackets and move out
amongst the spectators. Dominic and
Richard head for the Courtleigh entrance.
A rope stretches across the field. 50 m from
the fire and 100m from the fireworks as
specified by the Fire Brigade. Mike and
Sue, Tasos, and David move into position
making sure that no small children can run
towards the fire. There’s a fine line in banter
at the entry gates where Fred and Leona,
Paul Jim Gregg and Kevin check the
tickets.. Richard Whitton with two bulky

St Paul’s Pre- school
10th Anniversary
Celebration
On a glorious autumn day in September St
Paul's Pre-School held a fete to celebrate
its 10th Anniversary. The grounds and hall
were laid out with a variety of stalls and
games and many past and present
children, past and present parents, and our
faithful staff took part in the numerous
activities and enjoyed the delicious tea
served with homemade cakes.
Ten years ago St Paul’s Pre-School
opened with just 7 children and 2 loyal
dedicated staff with some helpers.
Ten years on, St Paul's Pre-School is a
thriving bustling hive of activity, with
outstanding ratings given by OFSTED.
However it continues to instil a love of
learning through a stimulating and fun
environment, taking into account the
individual needs of each child.
Our pre-school is open term time from
9.15am to 12.15pm with a lunch club until
1.30pm for the older ones.

Hadley Wood Running Club
With just one week to go until their first anniversary Hadley Wood Running Club has a double reason to be celebrating! The group,
which was started in November last year, has gone from strength to strength and has been named as Women's Running Magazine's
Running Group of the Year.
Delighted club founder Sensev El-Ahmadi said "I see this as an acknowledgement of all the hard work my husband Rachid and
I have put in to try to get the local community running. It's been an amazing first year, and this award just makes it all worthwhile!
We're very proud to have also raised over £5000 for charity last year, and it's great that through our efforts others are benefiting."

Hadley Wood resident
wins trampolining
competition at just six
years old
Congratulations to our local Hadley Wood
resident Sophia Richmond who, aged just 6
years old, recently came in 1st place out of
27 competitors in the Under 9 division of the
British Gymnastics London Trampolining
regional competition held at the National
Trampoline centre in Harlington, Middlesex
This is a remarkable achievement given
that she was competing mostly against
competitors two to three years older and a
testament to the training and commitment
she puts into a sport she clearly loves. As
well as winning the individual award, Sophia
also helped her team Zenith TC, based at
the Furzefield Centre in Potters Bar, take
first place against seven other competing
London teams – who knows, she may be
one to watch at the 2020 Olympics team. HADLEY WOOD ASSOCIATION

Time to celebrate Guy Fawkes and his ill fated attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. 5.30pm and the gates to the Hadley Wood Association’s grounds are open. A fine night. The families are coming in. Familiar faces everywhere. In the car park the Ghost train is rolling and the stalls in place. An evocative smell of coffee and hamburgers drifts from the caterers. Night falls and the old roundabouts light up, magically rejuvenated. The marshalls, fresh from Graham Sharp’s briefing meeting, struggle into their Hi Viz jackets and move out amongst the spectators. Dominic and Richard head for the Courtleigh entrance. A rope stretches across the field. 50 m from the fire and 100m from the fireworks as specified by the Fire Brigade. Mike and Sue, Tasos, and David move into position making sure that no small children can run towards the fire. There’s a fine line in banter at the entry gates where Fred and Leona, Paul Jim Gregg and Kevin check the tickets.. Richard Whitton with two bulky PCSO’s from our local Safe Neighbourhood team keep a cheerful and friendly eye on the queue. Graham, in charge at the PA system announces his thanks to our generous sponsors Statons and welcomes the guests. The firework team under Neil’s eagle eye are ready. Kamil Thomas and John looking weary but watchful patrol the field. They’ve been working to prepare the site since early morning. In the bar
