The PowerPoint presentation summarizes the titles, camera work, mise-en-scene, and soundtrack of the opening sequence of the thriller movie 'Se7en'. The titles use a scribbly font that changes position several times, conveying a sense of craziness. The camera work is frenetic, using montage and changing clips to portray a detective piecing together a case. The mise-en-scene features props like pens, books, and scissors that imply evidence is being analyzed. The soundtrack starts with bomb-like sounds and maracas, then adds a heavy drumbeat and unsettling effects to set an eerie, mysterious tone.
2. Titles:
• The titles first appear in the near the bottom right of the screen in a shaky
scribbly fashion which shows that something might be rushed or that
something not writing right is going on. The scribbly writing also
connotes craziness and possibly something psychopathic. The titles
then change position to being slightly off centre just above the top the
middle of the screen and are still using the scribbly, rushed looking
font. The titles change position yet again to the right side of the centre
now at the same height. As the actors names now come up, the titles
then change back to the left side of the centre with plenty of space
between the actors first and last name. The name of the movie then
flashes up to be in a larger font than the previous titles showing that
the title is more significant that the other titles. However it is very
quick to change to a different screen. After the two main actors and
name of the movie, the rest of the teams names are generally placed
randomly over the screen however tending to stay on the right side of
the screen. A couple of the longer titles break this rule of the titles
sticking to the right side as they are two long to stay on the right side.
The colour of the fonts are white with a general black background.
3. Camera work:
• The camera work in this opening sequence is all
over place and uses a montage of clips
involving film reels, someone writing, turning
of pages and flickers of a marker pen crossing
words and peoples faces out. This gives the
idea of a detective at work as these are all the
stereotypical things that you would imagine a
detective would do as he is narrowing towards
the end of his current case. It seems as though
the clips are showing us that this detective is
drawing all his evidence together to conclude
his investigation.
4. Mise-en-scene
• The props used in the montage that we see
are: pens writing, books, film reels, scissors,
photos, guns, razor blade, money, marker
pen, a binder, and some string and a needle.
These props are used to give the impression
that someone is using them in order to try
and find a link between them which is what
the movie is about, finding a link between
the evidence that the detectives find.
5. Soundtrack:
• The soundtrack to start off with sounds like bombs
exploding with some sort of maraca's shaking
gently in the background. It then sounds like we
hear a creaking of some sort by an over hanging
light. A heavy, deep drum beat then comes in
along with more sound effects of what is
happening with each prop on screen. Some
creepy eerie sounds are played over the top of
the drum beat and other quieter effects which
creates an eerie and mysterious atmosphere.
