You will need an AirPrint compatible printer. Every major brand makes at least one (HP, Canon, etc.). You can find a full list here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356 Your device and the printer must be on the same WiFi network. Choose your printer based in part on how much the replacement ink will cost!
Swipe one finger from the top of the device downwards to see a list of missed calls and texts, pending appointments and outstanding To Dos. Configure the section under Settings/Notifications.
Those with a cellular plan can make use of Reminders’ new geofencing feature. Instead of being reminded on a particular day at a particular time, you can be reminded when you arrive at or leave a specific location. Start by creating your reminder and then edit it to include the location information and when you want to be reminded (arriving or leaving).
When booking appointments in calendar, add location information including the city. To get a map and directions, just tap the address.
Siri is available for iPad 3 and later, iPhone 4S and later, and iPod 5th generation and later. Tap and hold the home button to activate Siri. (add handouts here/separately). Siri needs connection to the internet to work. Speak clearly and wait for the beep before you reply to questions. Siri not only takes requests for restaurants and the like but you can also dictate anywhere you can type (messages, email, etc.).
iCloud is a suite of services that let you:
- back up your device
- synchronize your device with other i-devices/computers
- store data (up to 5G free, more with paid subscription)
Note that those working for the federal government, doctors, lawyers, and some others may need to avoid the use of iCloud as it is illegal to store some information on servers not located on Canadian soil.
For iCloud to work properly you will need to enable it on each device you intend to use it on. You will receive an email from Apple to assist you with setting up iCloud on your computer. An Apple ID and password is required.
Go to Settings/iCloud and sign in with your Apple ID and password. Then, enable each app that you wish to use with iCloud.
