1. Evaluation Question 4
How Did You Use Media Technologies
in the Construction and Research,
Planning and Development Stages?
2. Google (The Internet)
For the basis of all my secondary research, I turned to search engine giant ‘Google’ to
form a foundation for the research stage of my product. Google allowed me access to
all the information I could ever want; from existing products to media terms and age
classification restrictions to existing information on target audiences, Google proved to
be vital towards the success of my project.
3. Internet Sites
From the foundation of Google I turned to major sites to find information on to form
my research, there are hundreds of website address’ that I have visited to gain
information to aid my project but here's the most important; YouTube allowed a basis
for me to watch and analyse existing trailer products for my project, this tool was vital
as it allowed me to watch every single trailer of my desire to aid the production of my
trailer; showing me the codes and conventions and what makes a truly brilliant movie
trailer. The next website is Wikipedia, this aided me for every secondary research
point I needed, from explanation into movie narratives to specific media terms and
conventions, allowing me access to the ‘Nitty Gritty’ elements to everything I need to
know to produce my products. The last of the main website address I used for
secondary research is movie databases such as IMDB, the site allowed me access to
any movie, its storyline, structure, casting details and promotional products.
4. Social Media
Social Media allowed a base for presentation of my work, audience feedback and
promotion of my work through sites of Blogger, YouTube, Facebook/Twitter and
Slideshare. Blogger allowed for a basis of documentation of my project, through
process of literally ‘blogging’ my research, development, editing and final processes in
the production of ‘The Found’. While YouTube, Facebook and Twitter allowed for a
audience feedback platform, where I could promote my work and get feedback on
how to improve upon features and what aspects work well in the eyes of my target
audience. Slideshare allowed me a format to post research and information
documents onto my blog address that are of a PowerPoint property.
5. Filming Equipment
Originally the choice of equipment used for filming was a portable Sanyo camcorder,
this was equipment provided by Chenderit’s Media Department, the equipment was
average quality but allowed myself and Molly to capture the shot needed and it don’t
the job effectively; its aesthetics allowed for easy manoeuvrability and the ability to be
put down and effectively still record shots. For the extra clips we needed to shot, we
chose a different piece of equipment that completely subverted the Sanyo and
provided for better, crisper footage but was not good when footage needed to be
placed on a table etc. as the device simply fell over, it also did not suit with the 2008
time era we was filming in as the equipment was visually to advanced than the
standard camcorder.
6. Editing Equipment
For one of the most crucial parts of production, the Main piece of equipment we used
to edit was a Apple Mac Computer, this equipment enabled myself and Molly to edit
our footage and construct our products on a wide screen with an extremely fast
processor system, allowing for ease of editing on soft-wear programmes and formats
that we used within the Mac computer.
7. Editing Programmes and Platforms
Final Cut Express: This is the program myself and Molly used to edit and
compose our movie trailer, using the program we was able to cut and edit
clips/sounds and titles into sequence to produce our trailer and bring the
storyboard to life.
Photoshop: This is the program that myself and molly used to cut, edit and
play around with photos and images that we used, from here we was able to
cut out specific elements in photos, layer images and play with colour
contrasts to create the perfect images to use in our ancillary tasks.
In Design: This is the programme myself and Molly used to produce the
Poster and Magazine Cover ancillary products, from here was able to import
images from Photoshop, create titles using fonts and layer backgrounds to
create our desired final product.
