2. THYROID EYE DISEASE
Seen in 25-50% of GRAVES DISEASE.
GRAVES DISEASE also known as BASEDOW’S
DISEASE in an autoimmune disorder that usually
presents in 3rd to 4th decade of life, affect women
more than men .
3. THYROID EYE DISEASE (TED) may occur in the
absence of clinical and biochemical evidence of
thyroid dysfunction.
The occurrence of signs of graves disease in a
patient who is not clinically hyperthyroid is
referred to as euthyroid or ophthalmic graves
disease.
Eye disease may be the first presenting sign of
graves disease.
4. 1. A patient has a graves disease the measure clinic
risk factor for developing TED is “SMOKING”.
2. Women are five times more likely to be affected
by TED than men.
3. Radioactive iodine used to treat Hyperthyrodism
can worsen TED.

5. Thyroid ophthalmopathy involves an organ specific auto
immune reaction in which humoral agent IgG produces the
following changes:

INFLAMMATORY CELLULAR INFILTRATION
21. ORBITAL CELLULITIS : Onset of
proptosis is earlier & patient has other
evidence of infection. (Fever)
IOIOPATHIS ORBITAL
INFLAMMAATORY DISEASE : More
painful than thyroid eye disease .
