What do I Know-Wonder-Learn about?

KNOW WONDER LEARN
There are three basic steps to this strategy, as its name suggests.
Step #1 - Before you begin your reading, ask yourself what you know about the topic.
Take time to jot down your ideas in the “Know” column. By thinking about what you
“know”, you are connecting with the topic and accessing prior knowledge. Good readers
should always access prior knowledge.
Step #2 - Think about some questions you might have regarding the topic. Put these
questions in the “Wonder” column. Now you’re ready to begin reading.
Remember to “chunk” the passage by breaking it up into smaller parts. It’s easier to
digest the information this way.
Step #3 - After reading a “chunk”, add to your template, filling in the “Learn” column.
Continue reading the passage, adding to your template after each chunk.
When you have finished the reading, check to see if any of your “Wonder” questions
have been answered. You’ll be surprised how much you will learn and remember!
